The delegation from the University of Danang visited and worked with Kobe University

The University of Danang (UD) and Kobe University (KU) signed the MOU in 2013. Moreover, the leaders of KU visited and worked with leaders of UD 3 times in 2012 and 2013. Therefore, with the aim of developing the effect of cooperative programs signed in MOU between UD and KU, in the afternoon of Feb 13th 2014, the delegation from UD led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam – President of UD visited and worked with KU. In the delegation, there were also Dr. Hoang Hai – Director of International Cooperation Department, UD; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan – Director of Planning and Finance Department, UD.

In the meeting, the KU’s delegation included:

-          Vice President of KU;

-          Prof. Shigeru Nishio, Director of International Student Center;

-          Prof. Hoshimoto Sachiko, Prof. Kimoto Takami;

-          Prof. Obayashi Saori;

-          Prof. Saito Miho.

            Participating in the meeting, there was also Dr. Cao Anh Dung – the First Secretary of Vietnamese General Consulate in Osaka.

The two parties have discussed about some cooperative proposals in the future and main contents are as follows:

-          Establish and deploy student exchange programs studying in English in the fields of Economics, Business, Technology or Japanese language study, Vietnamese language study for foreigners. (Foreign students can apply to study in accordance with short-time courses in summer vacation or within 1 year);

-          Search for some joint research projects funded by MEXT, JICA, JSPS or Vietnam;

-          Receive UD’s lecturers to study abroad under framework of scholarship of MEXT, 911 or 599 project...;

-          Some detailed programs will be directly discussed among faculties of the two universities, especially, in fields of mechanical shipbuilding engineering and maritime engineering...

In the morning of Feb 15th 2014. UD’s delegation was divided into 2 groups:

-            Working with KU;

-            Working with Kyoto University

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan had a meeting with Prof. Yuji Hayashi, Dean of the Graduate School of Maritime Sciences, KU. Attending the meeting, there were Prof. Tomohisa Dan, Manager of the Internal Combustion Engine Laboratory; Prof. Shigeru Nishio, Director of International Student Center and Dr. Cao Anh Dung, representative from Vietnamese General Consulate in Osaka.

At the meeting, after Prof. Yuji Hayashi introduced briefly about the progress of establishment and development as well as training specialities of the Graduate School of Maritime Sciences – KU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan not only introduced about UD, Danang city, the role of Danang city towards East-West Economic Corridor, marine economics but also discussed about cooperative training opportunities, scientific research and technology transfer in the fields of marine management, logistics, shipbuilding and ship repair technology. These above mentioned fields are key specialities of KU and quite suitable to requirements of human resource development for central coastal provinces of Vietnam in general and Danang city in particular in the future.

The two parties also discussed about postgraduate students exchange program. This program will be taught in English. In the short term, each party will exchange 2 postgraduate students including:

-            01 student specializes in economics to do research relating to marine management, logistics;

-            01 student specializes in technology to do research relating to shipbuilding and ship repair.

            Besides, Prof. Yuji Hayashi also totally agreed with UD in cooperating to do joint researches, scientific seminars as well as supporting UD to establish training programs and develop lecturers exchange in relevant specialties between the two universities.  

After the meeting, Prof. Tomohisa Dan, Prof. Nishio and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan visited facilities, laboratories of the Graduate School of Maritime Sciences, KU.

In addition, KU also arranged another meeting for UD and faculties of Economics, Business and Mechanics in the afternoon of Feb 15th 2014, however, the meeting between UD and Kyoto University was fixed in this day. Therefore, UD’s delegation expressed their sincere apology to KU. Moreover, in June 2014, the delegation from KU will visit and work with UD with the aim of discussing concretely about the cooperative programs in the future.
