In the morning of November 18th, 2014, the University of Danang (UD) welcomed and worked with the delegation from Rockefeller Foundation, ISET and Danang Climate Change Coordination Office led by Ms. Katya Sienkiewicz, Relationship Manager, Executive Committee of “the 100 Resilient Cities” of Rockefeller Foundation. In the delegation, there were also Dr. Tran Van Giai Phong, technical specialist from ISET Vietnam and 03 officers from Danang Climate Change Coordination Office. At UD’s side, there were Prof. Truong Ba Thanh – Vice President of UD, Dr. Hoang Hai – Director of International Cooperation Department, UD; Dr. Tran Van Quang – Dean of Faculty of Environment – University of Science and Technology, UD; Ms. Doan Thanh Huong – Faculty of Biology & Environmental Science, University of Education, UD and other relevant officers and cadres.
At the meeting, Prof. Truong Ba Thanh briefly introduced about framework of organization training programs as well as development strategy of UD. Besides, Vice President Truong Ba Thanh also presented some strong disciplines of potential collaboration between UD and other universities all over the word.
Responding to the question by Prof. Truong Ba Thanh regarding the purpose of “the 100 Resilient cities”, Ms.Katya Sienkiewiczexpressed that “the 100 Resilient cities” – Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) is dedicated to help cities around the world become more resilient to the physical, social and economic challenges that are a growing part of the 21st century. 100RC supports the adoption and incorporation of a view of resilience that includes not just the shocks – earthquakes, fires, floods, etc, but also the stresses that weaken the fabric of a city on a day to day or cyclical basis.100RC aims to help global cities become more resilient as well as set up forums for leader of each city to share knowledge, study experiences mutually and have more chances to cooperate with thinkers, relevant officers to improve its resilient ability. Especially,Ms.Katya Sienkiewicz also emphasized that Danang city is selected as one of 32 first cities of 100RC from 400 applications by Rockefeller Foundation.
At the meeting. Dr. Tran Van Quang hoped that after participating in this program, the local authorities could understand clearly about the current state of Danang city and find out the strategic orientation to help Danang city overcome challenges in the future. Especially, Dr. Tran Van Quang also pledged to support necessary data to help 100RC operate effectively. In addition, Vice President Truong Ba Thanh emphasized that UD will try its best to support this program in two fields: training program and scientific research.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Katya Sienkiewicz expressed her thanks to UD for the warm welcome and hopes that UD will support 100RC to bring good results for Danang city.
