University of Economics, the University of Danang, key partner in Viet Nam – South Korea International Conference VKC 2015



In the morning of 20/1/2015, International Conference “Local Development through Cooperative and Social Enterprise Model -  Typical Models of Viet Nam and South Korea” was successfully organized by the coordination among University of Economics, the University of Danang (DUE), Sungkonghoe University (South Korea), University of Foreign Language Studies, the University of Danang (DUFL) and the Quang Nam’s Cooperative Alliance.


The conference attracted the participation of more than 100 delegates from representatives of the Departments of Da Nang city, Hue city and Quang Nam province; representatives of Songkunghoe University (South Korea), Towson University (United States); leaders of the University of Da Nang, DUE, DUFL, numerous entrepreneurs, scientists, press & media agencies in the region.



In the opening remarks, Assoc.Prof. Nguyen Manh Toan - Rector of DUE emphasized the importance of developing Cooperative in the economic development of the country. Accordingly, the development of Cooperatives economics in agriculture - rural areas in Viet Nam will contribute to creating jobs, raising living standards, improving the income of workers and performing new rural development. In addition, Cooperative is considered as an important bridge linking the development process between agriculture and industry sectors.

Cooperative and Social Enterprise Model has been regarding as an effective solution that has been used by South Korea to adjust the deficiencies of the market economy, creating the conditions for private economic development in mountainous rural areas ... Therefore, applying the developed model in the international economic integration is an important remedy for Vietnam towards sustainable economic development, economic growth and social balance.

Dr. Jeong – Ku Lee – Rector of Sungkonghoe University revealed: “I want to emphasize that academia must takeresponsibility to propose new solution, thoroughly discuss requirements of model restructuring and enhancement of role and position of Cooperative, Social Enterprise.”

The Conference received 40 research papers and reports in both theory and reality, of which 7 reports were selected for presentation. The content of the reports revolved around the themes: Introduction of history, development situation, law and policy; some successful models of Cooperative and Social Enterprises in South Korea; practices and policies to develop Cooperative in Vietnam; introduction of two successful models of Credit Fund and Cooperative in Quang Nam province. In three sessions, the participants frankly stated shortcomings in the development of Cooperative in Vietnam, outlined the proposal and expressed desire to learn from partner.

End of the Conference, participants agreed that development of Cooperative and Social Enterprises play an important role in addressing poverty, inequality between rural and city area. With a view to promote this model, it should be implemented in a diverse variety of forms depending on the sectors and localities. Government plays a key role in establishing the legal framework, facilitating individuals and organizations to have grounds to apply model successfully.


Reportedly, on 21/01/2015, delegates from DUE and Sungkunghoe University will have study tour to find out typical Cooperative model in Quang Nam province.
