The delegation of the Arizona State University (ASU) led by Prof. Jeffrey Goss - Associate Vice Provost, Vietnam/ SE Asia Programs and Mr. Karl Theisen – Managing Director & Chief Representative in Vietnam visited and worked with the University of Danang (UD) on April 19th, 2016. The meeting has opened up new and practical cooperation projects.

On the side of UD, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam – President and leaders and representatives of the International Cooperation Department, International Education School, Academic Affairs division of University of Science & Technology, VNUK Institute of Research and Executive Education did participate in the meeting.

At the meeting, President Tran Van Nam proposed solutions to deploy cooperation projects with the support of stakeholders such as:
- BUILD-IT project: Building development foundation between the University and enterprises through innovation and technology, including “Space Maker”, which is the first step and the most important.
- Cooperation in field of biomedical engineering in postgraduate level between ASU and UD: The program will enable students to have the opportunity to obtain a Master degree of ASU in just 5 years since being accepted to study at UD. This would create the opportunity for the students at the University of Science & Technology (DUT), University of Education (UED), VNUK Institute of Research and Executive Education (VNUK), School of international Education (SIE) to study BME (Biomedical Engineering - Master program), which is a new program with the purpose to improve the health problems, health services, and increase production capacity of medical devices in long term.
Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam proposes four important projects
- Organizing International Conference entitled “Women in STEM Danang 2016”: This is expected to be held in July or August of 2016. UD will collaborate with ASU, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Instruments Intel, Fablab Danang to organize the seminar which will help to promote women's participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in Da Nang, central area and the whole Vietnam.
- To collaborate in the global technical course and GES project which has been approved. This is under the national scheme 2020 for Foreign Languages’ capacity development of the Ministry of Education and Training in the period 2016-2020.
ASU did express their agreement to the proposal of President Tran Van Nam. Two sides will have further meeting to reach an mutual agreement.
Founded in 1885 and being one of the largest public university in the US, ASU is ranked in the Top 60 best universities in the world. The University has nearly 65,000 students.
