The quality improvement of research and teaching in the economics – the hottest topic at The ninth Vietnam Economists Annual MeetingVEAM 2016



The Vietnam Economists Annual Meeting (VEAM), an annual meeting for economists and social researchers around the world to present their scholarly studies and works, was officially organized at University of Economics, the University of Danang (UE – UD) in August 11 & 12, 2016 with the participation of more than 150 delegates.VEAM helped economists, social scientists and PhD students from Vietnam and all over the world to exchange their ideas on economics, finance and management.

The meeting provided an opportunity to nurture a worldwide network of Vietnamese economists and other social scientists, expand and consolidate cooperation in scientific researches. It is an opportunity for Vietnamese universities, Universities of EconomicsFinance and Management, governmental agencies and companies to learn and experience the high- quality scholarly research.

UE – UD, the Development and Policies Research Center (DEPOCEN), the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), the Foreign Trade University (FTU) and the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) hosted this Ninth Vietnam Economists Annual Meeting (VEAM 2016).

The meeting included a variety of other activities including discussions between junior and senior researchers, presentations by leading international economists, and distinguished guests.

Assoc. Prof. Vo Thi Thuy Anh, Vice Rector of UE – UD expressed her pleasure when UE – UD had opportunity to cooperate with other partners to organize this  meeting. Besides Vice Rector Vo Thi Thuy Anh also emphasized that UE – UD has been trying to become a research-oriented university with an advanced learning environment in the future.

The four keynote speakers for VEAM 2016 were:

1. Markus Brueckner (Australian National University).

2. Duc-Tho Nguyen (Griffith University).

3. Makoto Tawada (Aichi Gakuin University) .

4. Wei Zhou (Paris Business School)



In addition, a special session on "How to improve the quality of economic research and teaching in Universities of Economics in Vietnam" was presented by Professor Le Van Cuong – a famous scientist in the field of economic science in France.


Prof. Nguyen Duc Khuong, Dean of Faculty of Economics and Finance from Business Administration and Management Institute in Paris- France, who was recently ranked seventh among 200 outstanding young economists globally by the Research Papers in Economics (RePEc) project, shared his experience in finance and banking.


At the end of the meeting, the organization board granted “Best paper award” for Ms. Dao Thu Hien with her topic “ Migration and Development: Dissecting the Anatomy of the Mobility Transition” and Mr. Ma Dinh Doan Hai with his topic “ Number of children, birth order and educational attainment: The case of Vietnam”.

The Vietnam Economists Annual Meeting (VEAM) took place successfully. The workshop proposed suggestions solving economical issues in the International integration environment, offered new ideas, shared specialized knowledge and presented about the development orientation of enterprises in the future.
