In the morning of October 08th, 2016, the UK delegation was led by Mr. Ben Chapman, Network Chairman, Former Member of Parliament paid a working visit to the University of Danang (UD). The Chairman was accompanied by Mr.Warwick Morris- Network Vice Chairman, Former Ambassador of the UK to Vietnam; Mr. David Priestley - Former Managing Director, Rolls-Royce International Vietnam;Mrs. Helen Griffiths - Pro-Vice Chancellor for International Relations, Aston University; Mr. John Callow - GMB Trade Union, Trade Union Friends of Vietnamand Mr. Luong Son Thanh – President of British Vietnamese Association.

“As one of the three key regional universities of the country, UD has been in the process of construction and development targeting to become a research university by 2020. In which, international cooperation especially cooperation with UK’s partners has been given as the top priority in its strategic plan” shared Prof. Tran Van Nam, President of UD.

VN-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education (VN-UK), a member of UD, was established on the basis of the Joint Declaration of the Government of Vietnam and the Government of UK aiming at developing a world-class university in Danang, VN–UK International University. VN-UK is considered as the first international training and research institute in the central region, and the first step in preparation for the formal establishment of the VN-UK International University. This has been a great significant milestone on occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and UK contributing to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Reportedly, in last September 24th, 2016, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam had a working visit to UD. With the given suggestions and development orientations by UD’s leaders, Deputy Prime Minister expressed his consensus with the development strategy of UD including VN-UK.

VN-UK was established based on the strategic partnership among UD, Aston University and Rolls-Royce Corp. This collaborative model has contributed to affirm the role of businesses in ensuring graduates to meet employer’s requirements.
During discussion with the UK’s delegation in general and Aston University in particular on the establishment of VN-UK International University, UD will have grounds to maximize its potential and expand UK’s network in Vietnam.
