"We recognize the difficulties and will try to do at any cost to provide a training program that meet the practical needs of learners and businesses" - That was the statement of Dr. Truong Sy Quy - Dean of Faculty of Tourism, University of Economics – the University of Danang in Business Roundtable Seminar that was taken place in last October 28th
The seminar attracted the participation of nearly 100 delegates from businesses in the field of hotels, restaurants, tour operators and event in the region. The purpose of the seminar was to collect the feedbacks of the businesses based on their practical experiences to make the training program of the Faculty complete and be more practical. Through the seminar, the University as well as the Faculty of Tourism received opinions relating knowledge that the University should equip students to get a good job after graduation. At the seminar, participants listened to presentations of the Faculty on training programs and internship for students.
According to the opinions of participants, English was a key to success in tourism but a barrier of most of students. The employers can select a student good at foreign language and support professional training or recruit students from the vocational school but not a graduate with general knowledge only. Therefore, participants suggested that professional certification should be included in program framework for students to get job right after graduation, while the improvement of the foreign language skills were also encouraged.
Important ideas that the University should build a bridge portal among the University - Leaners – Enterprises with a comprehensive source of information of the parties will be a basis for selection of trainee and where students also easily search for internship with the suitable capacity and development.
For the University, international cooperation as well as cooperation with enterprises is increasingly focused. It is known that in the near future, the university will invest in building practice facilities as a hotel model for students of the Faculty of Tourism to have a favorable environmental for best practice.
