The University of Danang fosters cooperative relations with University of Illinois at Springfield, the USA

 

On November 17th 2016, Leaders of the University of Danang had a meeting with Dr. Jonathan GoldbergBelle, Director of International Programs Office, University of Illinois at Springfield.

Participants from UD’s side included Prof. Tran Van Nam (President), Ms. Ho Long Ngoc, M.A. (Vice Director of International Cooperation Department) and Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thanh Viet (Director of Educational Quality Assurance Department)

After 22 years of formation and development, UD has asserted its quality of a key regional institution of the country. As oriented until 2020, UD will become research-oriented university. To achieve that, UD has been promoting international cooperation in terms of research and academic affairs. Up to now, UD has many high-quality programs and also an advanced environment of international integration for students to study and develop their future.

The University of Illinois at Springfield is one of three campuses of the world-class University of Illinois. It is located in the state capital, about 90 miles northeast of St. Louis. Students at Illinois Springfield, as it is known, can choose from nearly 25 undergraduate programs and about 20 master’s degree programs, including those in the colleges of business and public affairs and administration. Outside the classroom, Illinois Springfield students can participate in more than 80 organizations and the university’s numerous campus events.

The university was established in 1969 as Sangamon State University by the Illinois General Assembly and became a part of the University of Illinois system on July 1, 1995. As a public liberal arts college, and the newest campus in the University of Illinois system, UIS is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. UIS is also part of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the American Council on Education. The campus' main repository, Brookens Library, holds a collection of nearly 800,000 books and serials- in addition to accessible resources at the University of Illinois at Chicago and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campuses.

At the meeting, Prof. Tran Van Nam expressed his interest in cooperation with the University of Illinois Springfield in terms of faculty/student exchange programs, sending UD faculty members to study abroad under project 911 of Vietnamese government and enhancing undergraduate/ postgraduate cooperation.

As for international cooperation, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam said that UD is currently involved in many international projects such as USAID COMET (Connect Mekong through the Education and Training), CDIO (Conceive – Design – Implement – Operate) from Singaporein order to improve teaching/ learning quality for students.

At the meeting, Dr. Jonathan expressed his agreement with the recommendations of Prof. Tran Van Nam to push up cooperation in various fields, especially environmental engineering. In addition, he also suggested organizing short-term field school in Public Health at UD in the near future.
