The 3rd Pan – Asian Biomedical Science Conference and the Doctoral Program Scholarships from Thailand, Philippines



On December, 7th- 8th, 2016, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dang Quoc Chan – Dean of School of Medicine and Pharmacy – The University of Danang (UD), Director of the Medical Center – UD and Dr. Dang Duc Long – Lecturer of VN-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education – UD participated in the 3rd Pan – Asian Biomedical Science Conference (PABSC) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
General Information about PABSC:
In 2011, the Minister of Ministry of Higher Education of  Malaysia took  a survey on the future orientation of biomedical science. The objects selected to participate in this survey were from University of Malaya, University of  Kebangsaan Malaysia, University of Sains Malaysia, University of Putra Malaysia and International Islamic University of Malaysia. Through the survey, the organization board  decided to establish the ASIA-International Biomedical Science Consortium at Khon Kaen University, Thailand. The purpose of this Consortium is to develop biomedical science and technology programs for medical laboratories in Asia by research collaboration among member universities. In 2012, the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony was organized by 09 universities and research institutes from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Hong Kong. All members of Consortium also decided to organize a conference called the Pan – Asian Biomedical Science Conference to facilitate the study, practice and idea sharing in  Biomedical Sciences among Asian researchers.

The conference is held every 2 years. 2016 is the 3rd PABSC taken place, after the first one hosted by the University of Khon Kaen, Thailand, the 2nd one hosted by Chinese University, Hong Kong. The 3rd conference attracted 180 participants from many universities in Southeast Asia, Asia and further areas to focus on hot topics such as infectious diseases, animal diseases, non-communicable diseases, treatment and diagnosis, products from natural origin, epidemiology and community health.

At the conference, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dang Quoc Chan also discussed with Prof. Virasakdi Chongsuvivatwong to establish the long-term cooperation between the School of Medicine and Pharmacy - UD and Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. Accordingly, Prince of Songkla University, Thailand agreed to grant the doctoral program scholarships for doctors, pharmacists, nurses currently taking responsibility as lecturers at School of Medicine and Pharmacy – UD to create the best conditions for them to enhance the professional qualification as well as teaching methods. In addition, professors from Prince of Songkla University and Leading Universities of Philippines will also participate in teaching for nursing students of School of Medicine and Pharmacy – UD in the near future.
The Vietnamese delegation also discussed with member - universities of the Consortium about the possibility of organizing the 4th Pan – Asian Biomedical Science Conference in Danang city in 2018. This would be an important contribution to enhance the cooperative training programs in medicine, pharmacy and biomedical sciences of Danang city and Vietnam towards the Asian region, especially raise the prestige of UD in this training programs.
