A preliminary review on the implementation of Hub4Growth project within the framework of Erasmus + Program



From 09 to 12 of January, 2017, the University of Danang (UD), in collaboration with London Metropolitan University (the UK), held a preliminary wrap-up meeting on Hub4Growth project implementation and case study on University - Enterprise cooperation in London. The main purposes of the meeting were to assess the use of the grant abiding by Guidelines of the European Commission and the contents of the Project; to listen to reports on results of implementation in 2016 by participating institutions; to plan project implementation in 2017. Besides the preliminary meeting session, the participants listened to a number of speeches by some British universities on the pattern, how to implement and results achieved related to University – Enterprise cooperation, job opportunities for graduates. In particular, participants discussed on the ways of raising and managing the grant to maximize the benefits of the cooperation between University and Enterprise.

The mission of UD included Prof. Tran Van Nam (Leader representative of Coordinating Institution of the project), Assoc.Prof. Dr. Vo Trung Hung (Head of the project), MA. Ho Long Ngoc (Project Assistant), MSc. Le Thi Minh Hang (Project Accountant) and MSc. Lam Hong Tam (Project member). Being a Coordinator of the project, UD made report on the results of the  project implementation in 2016, the allocation and use of grant to participating universities, presented plans for implementation and grant use for 2017.

The HUB4GROWTH project, managed by UD as Coordinator Institution, has been granted by European Community with the funding of 742,129 Euros (Seven hundred forty two thousand and one hundred twenty nine Euros). This is the first time that the Vietnamese university has been selected as a Coordinator of Erasmus + Program. The duration of the Project is from 2016 to 2018 with 04 participating European universities (London Metropolitan University – the UK, University of the Peloponnese - Greece, Mykolas Romeris University – Lithuania and Agora  Institute for Knowledge Management – Spain), 08 Asian Universities (Royal University of Phnom Penh – Cambodia, Svay Rieng University – Cambodia, Tribhuvan University – Nepal, Purbanchal University – Nepal,  Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences – Mongolia, CITI Institute of Mongolia – Mongolia, Thang Long University - Vietnam and the University of Danang) and 04 Chamber of Commerce and Industry of 04 Asian countries.

In 2016, the project has been conducting the survey and analytical reports, evaluation on University - Enterprise cooperation activities in 04 Asian countries namely Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia and Nepal. Based on the situation analysis reports, the European Universities delivered Handbook on Good Practices in University-Enterprise Cooperation.

In 2017, the project will establish 08 University-Enterprise Centers (UECs) in 08 Asian institutions participating in the project to realize the contents of the Handbook on Good Practices. The project will conduct 04 Training Workshops in 2017 with the main topics: Employability (will be organized at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia), Entrepreneurship (will be organized at the University Peloponnese, Greece), IP Management (will be organized at Tribhuvan University, Nepal) and Fund Raising (will be organized at the CITI University, Mongolia).

In addition to the preliminarymeeting, participants visited and listened to some speeches on the typical activities of University – Enterprise cooperation. In particular, the delegates visited the Accelerator Institute model of the City of London. This Institute has successfully implemented numerous startups projects for students.
