UD targets to become one of the leading universities of Southeast Asia



This is the policy proposed by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Member of the Political Bureau, Prime Minister at a working visit to the University of Danang (UD) in the morning of February 24th, 2017.

Attendants at the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister - Vu Duc Dam, Minister of Education and Training - Phung Xuan Nha, Deputy Head of Government Office - Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment - Dao Quang Chung, Deputy Minister of Finance - Huynh Quang Hai, and leaders of ministries and central agencies; Chairman of Danang City - Huynh Duc Tho, Chairman of Quang Nam Province - Dinh Van Thu.

Prof.Dr. Tran Van Nam – City Party member, Party Secretary, President of UD made a report on the operation and development of UD at the meeting

Through the report at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam proposed suggestions and recommendations to the Government, specifically: (1) Complete project planning of UD village at Hoa Quy ward, Ngu Hanh Son district, Danang city and Dien Ngoc, Dien Ban, Quang Nam province; (2) Review, arrange and organize faculties, institutions of UD to establish two new universities namely University of Technical Education and University of Information Technology and Communications; upgrade and develop the VN-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education to VN-UK International University.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that in the context of the 4th industrial revolution, UD needed to review its mission. Accordingly, UD should have overarching mission on three levels, the first is regional level at Danang city and the Central Highlands, the second is national level and the third is international level. Specifically, UD's vision should be “Strive to create an advanced educational environment, towards to the top 50 research universities in Southeast Asia in 2035, based on the ability to bring together the best talented people and the harmony between the basic educational knowledge and practical applied research; have a positive impact on addressing the socio-economic problems of the country, especially in the Central – Highlands”.

 “With the strength and growth potential in the field of mechanical engineering industry, UD must link  training to practical needs with high applicability; must be pioneer in university autonomy contributing to improving the quality of higher education in the country” emphasized the Prime Minister .

Before the official working program at UD, the delegation of Prime Minister had a field visit to inspect the Da Nang University Village in Hoa Quy Ward, Ngu Hanh Son district and visited University of Science and Technology - UD

Through discussions on Danang University Village project, the Prime Minister concluded to re-launch a new project called the "Danang University – Quang Nam Urban".

The Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister  and Minister of MOET  highly supported the recommendations of UD to establish 03 new universities namely University of Technical Education, University of Information Technology and Communications, VN-UK International University. This would allow universities to develop specialized training with high-quality human resources while develop tailored training to meet the increasing needs of labor market.

Ending the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed: “UD should be one of the three research centers with big scientific projects in the country, to participate in solving the major problems of the country and strive to double the number of international publications by 2020”.

After the meeting, the Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc planted a memorial tree in the campus of UD
