Delegation of the University of Danang visited and worked at University of Siena and University of Évora in the framework of Erasmus + Program



The delegation of the University of Danang (UD) led by Prof. Tran Van Nam – President of UD paid a working visit to University of Siena (Italy) on 22-23/6/2017 and University of Évora (Portugal) on 26-28/6/2017. The mission was conducted with a purpose to attend two Benchmarking Visits within the framework of the HR4Asia Project (Strategic Human Resources Management for Southeast Asian Universities). On this occasion, the UD’s delegation had an official visit to University of Siena and University Learn Évora.

 HR4Asia, one of 147 projects granted by European Community with the funding of 810,985 EUR, is expected to be implemented in 3 years from 2017 to 2019. The project is coordinated by UD with 12 participating universities/ organizations including 04 European universities namely Agora Institute for Knowledge Management (Spain), Universidade de Évora (Portugal), Universitàdi Siena (Italy), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania), and 8 Asian universities namely Prince of Songkla University, Thammasat University (Thailand), Royal University of Phnom Penh, SvayRieng University (Cambodia), National University of Laos (Laos), Qui Nhon University, the University of Danang (Vietnam) and the Ministry of Education and Training(Vietnam). The purpose of the project is to improve the quality of human resource management for Southeast Asian universities by organizing short-term training courses on the construction and implementation of human resource management strategy as well as building the connection network among universities to share experiences and information relating to human resources management under the support of European universities.

At the wokshop, the participants from Southeast Asian universities listened reports related to the organization and governance model of European universities, especially University of Siena in Italy and made a comparison with human resource management models of Asian universities.

In addition to the activities of the HR4Asia Project, President of UD also received the invitation to visit and work with the Prof.Francesco Frati - President of the University of Siena. At the meeting, the two presidents introduced the activities of the two universities and discussed the cooperation possibilities. The two sides agreed to sign the cooperation agreement with the following main contents: 1) Strengthening cooperation between the two universities to implement the projects under the Erasmus + Program; 2) The University of Siena agreed to receive and provide the best conditions for the faculty and students of UD to study and do research at the University of Siena on the scholarship of the University, Europe or Vietnam; 3) The two sides agreed on priority areas for cooperation, including: Medicine - Pharmacy, Economic Sciences, Tourism and Technology.

On 26-28/6/2017, the UD’s delegation participated in Workshop on Human Resource Management at the University of Évora. The workshop opened an opportunity for the delegates to listen to and discuss on the reports on the human resource management model, recruitment, training and fostering, policies to motivate staff to work, the model and process of staff’s assessment ... In particular, the delegation visited Delta Café Company - a leading European coffee processing company and listened to the report on the human resource management model  of DELTA4 that has been successfully applied at Delta Café over the years. President of UD and President of the University of Évora signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement (MOU_UD-EVORA) between the two universities.

Based on the workshop, the HR4Asia Project has agreed to hold four short-term training courses for staff working in the field of human resource management at member universities including Strategic Human Resource Planning in Higher Education (held at Prince Songkla University on November 1-3, 2017), Workforce planning and skills development (held at National University of Laos on January 10-12, 2018), Retention and performance management (Held in Vilnius Gediminas Technical University - Lithuania in March 2018) and Recruitment and selection (held at Quy Nhon University in June, 2018).

Activities within the framework of the project in Italy and Portugal have been very successful. This is an important precondition for further implementation of the project in the coming time.
