In the morning of April 11, 2018, the University of Danang (UD) solemnly held the conferment ceremony of honorary professor title for Dr. Med. Le Trong Phi- Director of Department of Structural and Congenital Heart Disease, Klinikum Links der Weser, Bremen, for his devoted contributions to intensive cardiology in Vietnam in general and to the development of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy - UD (SMP-UD) in particular.

Attending the ceremony were Prof. Dr. Bui Van Ga - Former Vice Minister of Ministry of Education and Training; Erich Lejeune – Chairman of “Heart for Heart Foundation for Life" Organization, leaders of Danang hospitals, senior representatives of functional departments, and member –universities of UD.
After the meeting between Dr. Erich Lejeune and Prof. Dr. Bui Van Ga, the cooperation relationship between UD and “Heart for Heart Foundation for Life" Organizationwas established. In 2013, together with Dr. Wolfgang Heubisch- Minister of Science, Research and Arts of Bavaria, Germany; UD awarded the honorary doctorate title to Dr. Erich Lejeune for his contributions to education, health and science in Vietnam in general and UD in particular.

From that time, the relationship between UD - Danang Hospitals - University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City- Ludwig Maximilians University (Germany) and “Heart for Heart Foundation for Life” Organization (in which, Dr. Le Trong Phi was the one who has linked SMP-UD with “Heart for Heart Foundation for Life” Organization) is growing steadily and helping medical staff, doctors and lecturers of SMP-UD update modern knowledge and skills. Dr. Med. Le Trong Phi has made many contributions to the development of SMP-UD in consulting and developing training programs in general dentistry and maxillofacial dentistry in the direction of approaching German medical standards. Through this relationship, several SMP-UD’s lecturers are nominated to joinsome short-term courses in Germany annually.
In the upcoming time, Ludwig Maximilians University will transfer the medical training curriculum to SMP-UD, send professors to teach at SMP-UD as well as receive SMP-UD’s lecturers and staff to study, research and improve their skills.
Based onprestigious contributions to activities of training, charity, scientific research of SMP-UD as well as the efforts to improve the quality and prestige for SMP-UD of Dr. Med. Le Trong Phi, UD decided to award the Honorary Professor Title to him.

Le Trong Phi and hope that Dr. Med. Le Trong Phi will continue to be a bridge to help develop the cooperation relationship among UD and hospitals as well as organizations and universities in Germany in the field of Medicine” said Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam. Later that day, UD also organized the announcement ceremony on the Appointment Decision of Leaders of School of Medicine and Pharmacy for Doctors of Danang Hospitals.

Honorary Doctor Erich Lejeune and Dr. Med. Le Trong Phi
Dr. Med. Le Trong Phi is a person who has made a huge contribution to international medicine in general and Vietnam in particular with the development of innate cardiac implant technology.
After many years away from home, on the first visit to Vietnam in 1994, he found that equipment for medical examination and research work in hospitals and universities were inadequate. Since then, Dr. Med. Le Trong Phi has donated machines and medical equipments to many hospitals in the whole country.
It is known that Dr. Med. Le Trong Phi used to be a Ph.D. student at the Children's Hospital, University of Bonn, Germany. In 1992, he was a Pediatric Cardiothoracic Advisor at the Pediatric Cardiology Department at University of Bonn. In 1999, he was appointed as Head of Pediatric Cardiovascular Intervention, Head of Department of Adult Congenital Heart Disease. In 2011, he assumed the position of Director of Department of Structural and Congenital Heart Disease, Klinikum Links der Weser, Bremenafter a long working at University of Bonn and University of Hamburg. In the process of doing research and being a supervisor, he has published more than 8 chapters in cardiology books and more than 26 articles published in prestigious journals around the world. In 1993, with the above mentioned publication, Dr. Med. Le Trong Phi won the Heart Research Awardfrom the German Heart Foundation. In 2015, he invented a new endoscopic device for ventricular septal defect in congenital cardiac treatment.
