President of The University of Danang (UD) welcomed Consellor of Education and Research, Australian Embassy

 

On the afternoon of 18 October, 2012, the President of UD had a meeting with Mrs Sally Burnard, Consellor of Education and Research - Australian Embassy. Attending in the meeting was also Dr. Hoang Hai, Vice Director of International Cooperation Department and other relevant officers.

On the way of making preparation for thecelebration of40th anniversary of Viet Nam – Australia diplomatic relationship in 2013, Mrs. Sallyexpressed her wish to coordinate with UDto hostcelebration activitiesin DaNang. Themainactivitieswill be QuestaconShowandscientific seminarson teachingcapacity improvement. Participantsin QuestaconShow will bepupils, studentsandteachers-researchers

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Tran Van Namexpressed his sincere thanks to Mrs. SallyandtheAustralianEmbassyfor their support and assistance to UDin recent years. In thedevelopment strategy, UDhas alwaysattached theimportancetothe expansion offoreignpartnership, in whichAustralian universitieshasalwaysbeenthe strategic partnersandthe first choiceofUD. Especially, UDhas cooperation withtheAustralianNationalUniversity, UniversityofQueensland, UniversityofMonarch, UniversityofTechnology, SydneyandmanyotherAustralian universitiesto organize educationalexhibitions, field trips forAustralian studentsandconductjointresearch. Currently, the number of Australian alumni is increasing. 50% ofEnglish Department teaching staffhavegot Masterdegrees and PhD at Australian universities. Indeed, theAustralianalumnihavecontributedtoinnovationof UD’s teaching and research. On that basis,UDwelcomedtheideaon QuestaconShowof Embassyandwith the honorto host theactivitiesatUD.

At the meeting, Dr Nam said that UD had been one of the seven organizations selected by the MOET to develop 2020-National Project on Foreign Languages and one of three Pre-Doctoral centers of the country. Besides, many UD’s lecturers have applied for MOET Project 911, training 20.000 doctors. UD hopes continue to receive support and assistance from Australian Concellor and Embassy in the coming years.

Mrs.Sallyrevealed thatQuestaconShowandseminars on teaching sciencesin Englishwillbe a good opportunityfortheAustralianalumniandUD faculty to practiceand bring theprojectstogether. Bytheway, Sallyalsointroduced EndeavourScholarship of theAustralianGovernmenttoUD, including short-term research scholarship fornational Masterand PhD or post-doctoral researchfrom 4 to 6monthsin Australia.

After themeeting, SallyvisitedUD’s facilitiesexpected to bethevenuefortheactivitiesin 2013.
