With the aims of discussing the human resource management strategy at the University of Danang (UD), sharing experiences, organizing teamwork on value chains and trends for higher education institutions; in the morning of 02 July 2018, the workshop on "Strategic Human Resource Management" was officially launched at UD.
The workshop is under the framework of HR4ASIA project funded by the European Commission, which was taken place on 02 and 03 July 2018.
At the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Ngo Van Duong - Vice President of UD emphasized the important role of human resource management. In the context of globalization and rapid changes in education and training, the human resource management to adapt the development and optimization of higher education institutions is increasingly important as well as requires the human resource management models to be able to meet new challenges in selecting, developing, and fostering the employees’ motivation. Accordingly, rather than just performing recruitment mission, organizing labor contracts and payroll; the HR current approach focuses on training, promotion and evaluation as well as setting up the recruitment planning, and incentive policies to meet human resource needs in the future.
Assoc. Prof. Ngo Van Duong also shared that UD's development strategy is to build a unified regional university consisting of a lot of member-universities, based on a model of advanced university management. UD is in the process of becoming a multi-level, multidisciplinary university with a dynamic and innovative learning environment to meet the high qualified human resources for socio-economic development of Central area and Western highland of Vietnam.

“In order to achieve this objective, HR capacity is a crucial factor creating the competitive advantage of each university, thereby contributing to the realization of the above mentioned goals. Therefore, in order to optimize this capacity, the development of human resources strategy plays a particularly important role” said by Assoc. Prof. Ngo Van Duong.
In the framework of the workshop, participants had an opportunity to listen to a presentation on the HR strategy and policy development of UD and the UD’s member universities. Through each presentation, participants received high valuable comments of Prof. Paulo Resende da Silva - Faculty of University Administration, University of Evora (Portugal) - one of the participating units of HR4ASIA.

Prof. Paulo also said that the HR4Asia project was designed to support the creation and promotion of changes in Southeast Asian higher education institutions by reforming the human resources strategy. The three main objectives are: (1) Enhance the capacity of human resource management in Southeast Asian universities to improve the performance of the organization; (2) Improve the strategic planning of human resources in Southeast Asian universities to gain more autonomy in personnel issues; (3) Set up a human resource network of Southeast Asian universities as a regional forum to exchange information, experience and resources.

On behalf of UD leaders, Assoc. Prof. Ngo Van Duong expressed his appreciation and high evaluation for the objectives of HRM workshop in particular and the HR4ASIA Project in general. At this point, Vice President Ngo Van Duong also urged the delegates to actively share and propose practical suggestions as a basis for Personnel Department, UD to advise UD leaders and develop the appropriate management plan to manage HR in the future.
