Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam – Former President of the University of Danang has been proud to receive the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Nagaoka University of Technology (Japan). Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) has close cooperation with Vietnamese Universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the University of Danang, University of Science and Technology – VNU HCMC.

Being established from 1976, NUT is one of the leading prestige universities of Japan.

By the rankings of the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE), Nagaoka University of Technology ranked second among Japan's technology universities (behind only the Tokyo Institute of Technology), and ranked 17th among 435 universities in Japan.

UD and NUT have established cooperative relations since the 2000s, through faculty exchanges, primarily academic reports from NUT professors. Then, in 2006, together with other universities, the two universities set up a Twinning Program of 2,5 + 2 (TP) for students who have passed the university entrance exam in Vietnam with 2.5 years of study in Vietnam. The students studied Japanese and professional knowledge at the same time and then took the entrance examination (Maths, Physics, Japanese) to universities in the NUT system.

Some lecturers of the University of Da Nang received a prestigious scholarship from the Government of Japan (MEXT scholarship) directly recruited by the NUT (without the Embassy's approval) with the recommendation of  UD’s President. At present, there are 8 PhD students of UD doing PhDs at NUT under the MEXT scholarship.

As a founder and monitor of the Twinning program, which developed staff and student exchange programs, Prof. Tran Van Nam joined and sent lecturers to attend international conferences hosted by NUT, nominated outstanding faculty members to apply and won the MEXT scholarship, partly contributing to the success of NUT's vigorous development today. The Council of Professors and the Council of Science of Nagaoka University of Technology has decided to award Honorary Doctorate Degree to Professor Tran Van Nam - former President of the University of Danang, senior lecturer of the Faculty of Transport Mechanics – University of Science and Technology-UD.

The ceremony was solemnly held at Nagaoka University of Technology on October 4, 2018 under the witness of the Council of Professors, Faculty leaders and UD’s PhD students studying at the NTU.
