In the morning of December, 12th 2012, The University of Danang (UD) welcomed the delegation of the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, led by Dr. Anna Cicccarelli, Deputy Vice Chancellor of UQ. Attending in the meeting, there were Assoc. Prof. Tran Van Nam- President of UD, M.A Tran Huu Phuc - Director of Administration Department, M.A Duong Mong Ha - Director of Quality Assurance Department, M.A. Ho Long Ngoc - Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department and other relevant officers.
In the meeting, Dr. Anna Ciccarelli briefly introduced about global strategy of UQ as well as some outstanding achievements in the past year. Dr. Anna also shared proudly that UQ continues to be included in the ranking list of the 100 world’s leading universities by Academic Ranking of World Universities. Especially, Dr. Anna Ciccarelli emphasized on the project TRT (Teaching Research Program) that has been conducting at UQ.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam presented cooperation relationships between UD and other Universities all over the world and some outstanding activities such as promoting the training program in “the national foreign languages 2020” project and doctoral training for universities and colleges in the period 2010-2020 (Project 911), promoting collaborative project with the 02 British Universities (Aston University and University of Leeds) in order to accelerate progress of project “UK-VN International University”, developing the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in model of advanced training program of medicine and pharmacy of Ludwig Maximilian University, Germany. On this occasion, through Dr. Anna Ciccarelli, Dr. Nam expressed his gratitude to UQ that has organized some professional development workshops at UD. These have been highly valuable opportunities for young staff of UD to attend, update new knowledge and share experiences, scientific information with well-known professors of UQ. There are now a lot of young lecturers of UD who meet foreign languages qualification requirement and desire to be received by UQ in postgraduate training at the earliest time, said Dr. Nam.
Responding to the question of Dr. Anna Ciccarelli on fields which are being focused and developed at UD, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam emphasized on 6 fields: Biotechnology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical and Biomedical Engineering, IT, Energy and Environment. Dr. Anna Ciccarelli also revealed that biotechnology research is the strength of UQ. They have coordinated with Washington St Louis University to establish research team in energy.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Anna Ciccarelli expressed her thanks to UD for the warm welcome and hopes that cooperation programs in training and scientific research between the two universities will develop more than ever before.
