From the middle of February, 2020, in the complicated COVID-19 situation, the online teaching and learning was conducted by University of Foreign Language Studies - The University of Danang (CFL-UD) to ensure the safety for staff, lecturers and students and maintain studying spirit for students during the time of temporary absence.
Faculty of English language was a pioneer in online teaching and learning
From the very beginning, CFL-UD mobilized leaders of faculties and lecturers to actively participate in unifying the method, applying information technology and fully preparing lesson plan to deploy for each class and each student. The English language Faculty was one of the "pioneers" conducting online lectures. MA. Vu Thi Chau Sa - lecturer of English language Faculty shared that the online class was taken place not much differently from the focused one at CFL-UD.
At the same time, many students could listen to lecturers and asked questions or answered and discussed together. The tool includes a parallel chat so that the two sides can exchange and answer questions. Application software allows audio and video recording so that lecturers can share them with students, in case that students cannot attend the online lessonfor personal reasons.
Lecturers and students joined in the online class
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Phuc - Rector of CFL-UD emphasized that in order that the online teaching method had the best effective, spreading more widely to all students, CFL-UD would regularly update lectures, interactive forums and discussion between lecturers and students. “Lecturers always play an important factor in the results of the teaching and learning process. Therefore, the lesson plan needs to be carefully prepared with the management skills of the class and firstly required to exploit the application features of information technology in teaching and learning foreign languages. Especially, the positive participation of each student is the deciding factor” said by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Phuc.
Information technology application was encouraged to actively implemented
Assoc. Prof .Dr. Nguyen Van Long - Vice Rector of CFL-UD shared that being one of the key universities implementing the National Foreign Language Project, deploying online teaching and learning or online exams was actually information technology application which have been piloted by CFL-UD at several UD’s member universities in recent years (since 2015). Feedbacks from students were very positive. “We are continuing to develop and complete the testing software for online examination. Typically, CFL-UD in collaboration with the National Testing Center to organize computer-based tests, grant Vietnamese Standardized Test of English Proficiency and deploy the entrance test software, end of module test, final exam ...” said by Assoc.
