On December 16, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu – President of the University of Danang (UD), hosted the meeting with Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest (Director of the Asia – Pacific Region, Francophonie University Association – AUF) and Mr. Chékou Oussouman (Director of the Asia – Pacific Region, International Organization of La Francophonie – OIF) on the occasion of their visit to the UD to grant support packages for students who are bearing financial difficulties due to recent natural disasters.

Overview of the meeting.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu respectfully welcomed and highly appreciated the visit of leader representatives of the AUF and the OIF, affirming that the UD always attaches great importance to the cooperative relationship with the Francophonie, especially in the fields of education, training, scientific research.

The UD’s President introduced the highlights of the university, emphasizing the goals of training students with knowledge and professional skills to become “global citizens”.

In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu expressed his wish that the AUF and the OIF would continue to support the UD to expand relationships with the partners, universities and enterprises in the Francophonie, thereby contributing to improving the quality of training, promoting international publication and research application, solving practical problems of the locality and the country.

Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Director of the AUF’s Asia – Pacific Region, said that his visit aimed at understanding the needs of the AUF’s member universities to build the development plan for the period of 2021 – 2025, in which the AUF always attaches importance to and highly appreciates the UD as a “strategic partner” of the organization.

The AUF’s leader affirmed that it would continue to support the UD, especially share experience in building international cooperation projects to increase resources for higher education development in the context that Vietnam has been actively participating new-generation free trade agreements.

For his part, Mr. Chékou Oussouman – Director of the OIF’s Asia – Pacific Region, shared that the OIF’s outstanding activities across the globe presented its interest in start-up, education quality, living environment and international integration opportunities.

The OIF’s leader highly appreciated the role and position of the UD, at the same time expressed his wish that the two sides could promote cooperation for more meaningful projects, especially in 2021 when the OIF and the AUF will be celebrating the 50th and 60th anniversary of establishment respectively.

Especially on this occasion, leader representatives of the OIF and the AUF awarded a package of VND 135 million to support 27 French-speaking students to overcome difficulties caused by the impacts of recent natural disasters (VND 5 million/student).

The awarded students included 13 ones from the Vietnamese-French Training Program of excellent Engineers (PFIEV) of University of Science and Technology, 14 ones from Faculty of French Language and Faculty of Foreign Languages Education of University of Foreign Language Studies.
