Report on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal 8 – Sustainable job and Economic growth – at The University of Danang in 2024
Foreword
The University of Danang (UD) is strongly committed to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This report focuses on SDG 8, presenting UD’s efforts and achievements in promoting sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and ensuring decent work for all. Through progressive labor policies, investment in research and student support, UD is not only a leading educational center but also a responsible employer, actively contributing to the socio-economic development of the region and the country.
DETAILS RESULTS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF INDICATORS
Indicator 8.2.1: Employment practice living wage
UD is committed to ensuring a stable standard of living for all staff and employees. The lowest income at UD is 6,301,244 VND/month, 42.9% higher than the minimum wage in region II (Da Nang) of 4,410,000 VND according to Decree No. 74/2024/ND-CP, demonstrating UD's deep concern for the lives of workers.

Internal Expenditure Regulations
Article 7: Ensure payment of salaries and allowances according to current regulations of the State.
Article 8: Wages must not be lower than the regional minimum wage according to current regulations at the time of signing the contract.
Indicator 8.2.2: Employment practice unions
The UD trade union operates strongly, representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers. In 2024, UD had 2,652 union members out of a total of 2,697 officials and employees, reaching a rate of 98.56%.
Notably, 55.66% of union members are female (1,476/2,652), showing that the role and voice of female workers are always promoted in the organization.

Vietnam Trade Union’s Charter: Vietnamese employees who are paid employees and foreign employees working in Vietnam under labor contracts with a term of at least 12 months have the right to voluntarily join the Vietnam Trade Union.
Indicator 8.2.3: Employment policy on discrimination
UD builds a civilized, equal and barrier-free working environment through clear and transparent policies.

Indicator 8.2.5: Employment practice equivalent rights outsourcing
UD ensures fairness and transparency in remuneration payments to external experts, lecturers and presenters through the Internal Expenditure Regulations.

Salary according to scientific titles:
- Professor, Senior Expert, Doctor of Science: Maximum 1,200,000 VND/session
- Associate Professor, Doctor, Lecturer: Maximum 900,000 VND/session
- Other lecturers and presenters: Maximum 600,000 VND/session
Indicator 8.2.6: Employment policy pay scale equity and Indicator 8.2.7: Tracking pay scale for gender equity
UD strictly complies with the provisions of the law on wage equality, especially the principle of non-discrimination between genders in salary payment.
Labor Law (Article 90, Clause 3): "Employers must ensure equal pay, without gender discrimination, for employees performing work of equal value."
The internal expenditure regulations of the UD are built on this principle, committed to ensuring fairness in salary scales and other incomes for all officials and employees. This monitoring and measurement is carried out through the human resource management system and periodic reporting, ensuring transparency and publicity in salary policy.
Indicator 8.2.8: Employment practice appeal process
UD has a clear process for employees to complain about benefits and salaries through the "Regulations on handling complaints and denunciations of UD".
Mechanism for receiving citizens: According to the Regulations on receiving citizens of UD, the President (or authorized Vice President) periodically receives citizens on the afternoon of the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, ensuring that employees' rights to complain and make recommendations are heard and resolved promptly.
Indicator 8.2.9: Employment practice labour rights
UD recognizes and facilitates fundamental labor rights, including freedom of association and collective bargaining.
Grassroots Democracy Regulations (Article 12, Clause 4): "Civil servants and employees discuss and decide on participation in: Clubs, professional social organizations, socio-political and professional organizations, and other social organizations as prescribed by law."
This ensures that workers have the freedom to join social and professional organizations that suit their aspirations and interests.
Indicator 8.3.1: Expenditure per employee
UD shows a strong commitment to investing in human resources through high spending per employee.
Total spending in 2024: 1,329,430,487,728 VND
Total number of employees: 2,697 people
Average spending: 492.8 million VND/employee/year
This investment level is significantly higher than the average of other higher education institutions, demonstrating UD's priority in developing a team of high-quality staff and civil servants.
Indicator 8.4.1: Proportion of students with work placements
UD focuses on connecting theory with practice through internship programs lasting over one month.


Indicator 8.5.1: Proportion of employees on secure contracts
UD is committed to creating long-term career stability for its staff through a sustainable labor contract policy.
Number of employees with 3-year or indefinite-term labor contracts: 2,484 people
Total number of employees: 2,697 people
Guaranteed labor contract rate: 92.1%
This high rate demonstrates UD's trust in its staff and commitment to creating a stable and safe working environment for employees.

This report demonstrates the continuous efforts of the University of Danang in implementing the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8. By building a fair working environment, investing in people and carefully preparing future human resources, UD not only fulfills its educational mission but also becomes a model of sustainable development, contributing positively to the common prosperity of society.
