21/06/2021
As a key national university, the University of Danang (UD) had a mission of training high-quality human resources, conducting scientific research and transferring knowledge and technology, contributing to socio-economic development of the Central area, Western Highlands and the whole country. In which, the Politburo promulgated Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW (January 24, 2019) on the construction and development of Da Nang city to 2030, vision to 2045.
Center for Learning Resources and Communication-UD would like to introduce the interview content of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - Member of Da Nang city Party Committee cum President of UD - on the Electronic Portal of Da Nang City about UD’s key mission and task focusing on trainning high-quality human resources to adapt the city's socio-economic development as well as contributing to the development of the region and country as a whole.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - Member of Da Nang city Party Committee, President of UD
Reporter: As a key national university, in the coming time, which orientations and solutions does UD have to improve the human resource quality, contributing to attract investors and promoting the socioeconomic growth, sir?
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu: Located in Da Nang city - a dynamic, potential and growing city - UD always determines the top priority task is to train high-quality human resources, serving for the development of the region and the country. First of all, meeting the requirement of the human resource according to the spirit of Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the construction and development of Da Nang city to 2030, vision to 2045.
For training goals, UD has changed from training aiming at available jobs to cultivating the spirit of startup and creativity. That is to train a new generation of students, who have creative thinking as well as ability to work autonomously so as to not only create jobs for themselves but also bring many job opportunities for the community.

Regarding training majors, UD is oriented on the basis of STEM (combining Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
We used to wonder why not many foreign investors, especially huge corporations, come to invest in production in Da Nang as well as in the central area. There are many reasons, but is it possible that the human resources here have not met the requirements of the new production?
From those concerns, we have adjusted our strategies, goals and solutions to focus on improving the quality of training and scientific research. That is, firstly, to promote cooperative relations between universities and enterpries.

Improve the training quality to help student actively, adapt, integrate and be competitive
on the domestic and international labor market
Secondly, bringing innovative and creative activities into the culture of universities. The active and bustling movements in Science and Technology activities of UD’s lecturers and students over the past time have shown the initial success of this strategy. The number of works, awards and international publications on scientific research by lecturers and students increased sharply.

Strengthen the guidance for students to practice, do internship
to shorten the gap between training and reality
Thirdly, it is necessary to promote the development of "The master plan for planning and developing human resources for the development of Da Nang in the period of 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030" according to Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW, Resolution of the XXII Party Congress and the action programs of the City People's Committee.
Reporter: To create abundant human resources, could you tell us about the UD’s training strategy?
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu: Determining the development strategy of Science and Technology associated with innovation, serving for the development needs of localities and enterprises. In the past time, UD had signed many agreements with localities and enterprises, including huge corporations such as Truong Hai Automobile Corporation. This is an important partner having close relationship with UD’s member universities in human resource training and innovation.

In October 2020, University of Science and Technology-UD (UD-DUT) signed a cooperation agreement with Fujikin Group (Japan) to implement an international project for building the Fujikin Danang Research and Development Center. The project is invested in Da Nang Hi-Tech Park with a total capital of 35 million USD. The two sides will coordinate to train high-quality human resources in advanced technology fields such as designing robot, manufacturing new-generation medical devices, deploying technology to apply clean materials and energy (Hydro, LED, Nano...), Information Technology (IT) and Communication (AI, IoT...).

Open key training disciplines,
high technology, source technology,
majors with great demand for human resources
Especially, before the 2020 enrollment season, it was the first time that UD-DUT hosted the signing ceremony to announce the development of engineering training programs with 06 leading technical training universities in Vietnam, unifying the general principles, input and output standards in engineer training programs in accordance with the National Qualification Framework of Vietnam to improve competitiveness and integration in the regional and international labor market.
In the academic year 2020-2021, UD-DUT pioneered to open a Computer Engineering under the management of Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence of Faculty of Information Technology. These are modern majors, providing the foundational knowledge for the 4.0 industrial revolution such as: Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data. In addition, UD-DUT has enrolled students in Computer Engineering from this school year.

University-enterprise cooperation relationship
helps students accessing advanced technology
The Computer Engineering focuses on training in-depth knowledge and skills on the design and development of hardware and software system; promising to become one of the "hot" training majors with high demand in the competitive domestic and international labor market. UD’s member universities such as University of Economics, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, University of Foreign Language Studies, University of Technology and Education, etc. have key training majors, meeting the requirements of training high-quality human resources for the country.
Reporter: In order to continue training human resources in the future, what are UD’s plans in the futures?
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu: Da Nang city still has many potentials and advantages to attract investors. Therefore, there should be more breakthrough solutions and new methods including ensuring the investment environment, attracting key projects, promoting the role of universities to develop high-quality human resources. Especially, key majors will create breakthroughs and great added value, in line with the orientations making Da Nang become an "innovative and smart city".

IT and Computer Science
provide human resources for Da Nang to become
innovative center of the country
In order to best promote UD’s role and mission, as well as contribute more actively and effectively to Da Nang, UD need the strong support from Da Nang’s authorities to implement the project “The establishment of Danang National University" on the basis of UD and a number of universities in Central area, including the project of merging Quang Nam University into a member university of UD.
The establishment of a National University in Da Nang comes not only from the tradition, potentials and solid position of UD in the national higher education system but also from urgent and objective requirements. It will be a breakthrough making Da Nang worthy of "A key socio-economic center of the whole country and Asean”; “A Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Education - Training and Science - Technology" as proposed by Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW.

UD hopes that the Ministry of Education and Training, Da Nang city, Quang Nam province as well as central and local agencies will continue supporting to accelerate the implementation of UD construction project in Hoa Quy ward (Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang city) and Dien Ngoc ward (Dien Ban town, Quang Nam province).
This is a big national project, which is very interested and supported by the Prime Minister, Government and local leaders, including Da Nang city. UD also wishes to have the companionship from public - private enterprises, domestic and foreign investors to develop cooperation relationship for mutual benefit in the process of implementing this project.
This is an important premise and lever for UD to become one of the three key centers of the country, contributing to attract investors, bring a new look and develop human resources with the aim of actively contributing to the development of Da Nang city and the enterprise community.
