Mobilizing human resources, ready to open the training course in Integrated circuit design, and deploying student enrollment in 2024

With a long tradition, potential human resources, facilities, and experience in training in the fields of engineering and technology, in the 2024 enrollment, the University of Danang (UD) has 03 UD’s member universities ready to open new majors, deploy high-quality human resources training in Integrated circuit design (IC Design) to meet the urgent needs of Da Nang city as well as the whole country.

With prestige, branding, and high training quality among the top universities in Vietnam, which is evaluated and recognized to meet international standards (HCERES Europe, cycle 2), UD- University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT) has the experience and strength of training many fields related to Circuit Design such as Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation,...

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Hieu - Rector of UD-DUT said that according to survey data over the past 3 years, UD-DUT provided high-qualified human resources for industries serving the Semiconductor Chip with a rate of engineers graduating from UD-DUT’s faculties working in businesses related to IC design and production in Da Nang was about 40-80% (typically Renesas Company had up to 100%), with an average number of 40-60 students/year.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Cao Tho – Rector of UD-UTE, with the opportunity to catch the wave of investment in the Semiconductor Chip Industry, it is forecast that the demand for human resources will be quite large.

This is a new training field, requiring deep expertise and a broad knowledge base. Moreover, students need to have a progressive spirit, perseverance, and passion for learning, updating knowledge, and new technology trends, as well as soft skills to work independently and effectively in a team.

One of the necessary competencies for Circuit Engineers is to use English to communicate with experts, read and understand specialized documents.

“In addition to mastering the design process, especially Mosfet (the core part of IC circuits), engineers need to be ready to proactively self-study to catch up and improve their knowledge because the semiconductor industry requires very rapid change” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Bao Anh - Technical Director of Synopsys Vietnam Company, a former student of UD-DUT.

To promote enrollment in the Microelectronics - IC Design major, UD-DUT has just put into use the IC Design lab equipped with a computer system installed with a standard IC Design Toolkit (Cadence).

This is not only a place for students to practice and experience IC Design but also serves for a short-term training course on Semiconductor Circuit Physical Design, this course is expected to open at the end of February 2024 for students in fields of IC Design.

UD-DUT cooperates with Tresemi - a non-profit organization that connects experts working at leading US semiconductor chip companies to foster knowledge and skills about semiconductor chips (about 30 students during the 12–15-week training course). This is also the need of businesses and learners to promptly meet the supply and demand of human resources for the domestic and regional labor market.

UD-UTE promotes the completion of ODA projects to build the Semiconductor and IoT Microchip Laboratory

In the 2024 enrollment season, UD-UTE opens a major in Circuit Design and also plans to open a major in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence and develop a Master's training project in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Semiconductor Circuits.

Circuit Design has a high demand for human resources, consistent with the trend world's high-technology development

Prioritized by the Korean Government to invest in ODA projects (about 7.7 million USD for the period 2022-2027), UD-Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communications Technology (UD-VKU) has taken pioneering steps to proactively prepare for training and research in Semiconductor Circuit technology.

The school cooperates with leading Korean partners (with the world's leading microchip industry) such as Kyung Hee University and leading businesses, schools, and institutes in Vietnam to carefully prepare for training and enrolling students in the Circuit Design major.

UD-VKU signed a cooperation agreement with Nam Long Group to invest in the IC Design lab

Nam Long Group is also investing with UD-VKU to deploy a Semiconductor Circuit Laboratory (total capital of about 25 billion VND). Along with that, UD-VKU started to set up the Microcircuit Design Lab (total investment of 10 billion VND) to ensure the necessary facilities for training in fields such as Semiconductor Circuit Design, Electronic Circuit Design, Microprocessors, Embedded systems…
