The University of Danang: Striving for innovation, creativity, and breakthrough in the quality of scientific research

23/03/2025

In the context of the country entering a new era of development, the Politburo has just issued Resolution No. 57/NQ-TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation. This is truly the "golden key" for our country to develop sustainably and integrate internationally in the digital age. "The new context can be said to be a great opportunity for higher education in general and The University of Danang (UD) in particular", Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of UD said.

In order to strive to fulfill the great task of developing into a National University in the spirit of Resolution No. 26/NQ-TW and Conclusion No. 79/KL-TW of the Politburo, UD always focuses on breakthroughs, improves the quality of scientific and technological activities and innovation associated with digital transformation. The "leverage" is based on the foundation of special attention to the development of the team of lecturers and scientists, which is constantly improved in both quantity and quality.

The spring meeting to honor new Professors,

new Associate Professors, and new Doctors

is a traditional and meaningful activity

organized annually by UD

More than 15 years ago, UD pioneered and initiated the model of research-teaching groups that combine two main tasks in the university: teaching and scientific research. Up to now, many research-teaching groups in specialized fields and disciplines have become the core force to continue forming strong research groups. By promoting the connectivity of multidisciplinary and multi-field knowledge, interdisciplinary linkage in science and technology and innovation activities, the research groups of UD have joined forces and are capable of undertaking topics at the national, ministerial, sectoral, provincial, municipal and equivalent levels, including joint research projects with prestigious international scientists.

Typically, UD - Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, gathers research groups that are assigned to preside over and implement many topics belonging to key programs at the State level. These are: the Project "Research, build a monitoring system, early warning and support for drowning risk response at beaches" (National Science and Technology Program on "Research, development and application of information technology to serve the development of digital government and smart cities"); the Project "Research on synthesis of low-temperature molten alkali metal salt electrolytes and electrode materials with Mxenes structure to manufacture high-performance dual-ion batteries (DIB)" (National Science and Technology Program on "Research, application and development of materials technology"); the Project "Research on electrolysis technology to produce hydrogen directly from seawater using Ru/MoO3 electrochemical catalyst on Nickel foam" (National Science and Technology Program on "Research, application and development of energy technology")...

According to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Tan Hung - Deputy Director in charge of UD - Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, thanks to the close and drastic direction of the leaders of UD and its member universities, creating favorable conditions to support scientists, these research topics not only have scientific significance, keeping up with the trend of technology 4.0 but also have high practical applicability, contributing to solving urgent socio-economic issues, bringing practical efficiency to serve the community.

UD organized a scientific conference

to contribute to the development of the

North Central and Central Coast regions

according to Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo

In addition, in recent times, UD has promoted its intellectual team to participate in giving opinions, summarizing, building and consulting on major policies with central and local agencies. For example, UD - University of Economics has proactively implemented the Annual Economic Reports of Da Nang City, thereby forecasting and proposing solutions for growth scenarios (from 2022 to present).

By persistently pursuing the policy of sending young lecturers abroad for training (since the 3rd Party Congress of UD, term 2005 - 2010), up to now, UD has "reaped the sweet fruit" of adding nearly 100 new Professors, Associate Professors, and Doctors each year from sources such as training, appointment and new recruitment, attracting international experts and lecturers, especially Vietnamese intellectuals abroad.

In addition, UD directs its member universities to have appropriate attraction and treatment policies, especially constantly improving the environment, working conditions, teaching - learning and research with humanistic and pedagogical qualities. Typically, the School of Medicine and Pharmacy takes advantage of resources, autonomy mechanisms, and school - institute linkages to have policies to invite scientists such as experienced doctors and nurses from major hospitals in the area to participate in teaching and research at the School.

Strengthening the potential of the physical

infrastructure team to create breakthrough

policy mechanisms to improve the quality

of research and innovation

Thanks to that, up to now, UD has developed a team of nearly 2,600 staff and lecturers, including 08 Professors, 133 Associate Professors and 796 Doctors. The proportion of lecturers with PhD degrees reaches nearly 50% (compared to the national average of about 32%), in which UD – University of Science and Technology has the highest rate (nearly 70%). This is a valuable asset to promote the improvement of training quality and scientific research.

With the spring message: “Lunar New Year - New Spirit - New Determination - New Thinking - New Ways of Doing - Bringing The University of Danang to a New Level of Development”, President of UD Nguyen Ngoc Vu said that the university continues to develop harmoniously between academic research, promote international publications (in prestigious world journals WoS/Scopus) with applied research and transfer.

Along with that, strengthen the connection with ministries, branches, central agencies, localities, and enterprises in training high-quality human resources to serve key industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, international finance, etc. so that UD is truly a "trusted address", worthy of the choice of society, parents and students; contribute to the socio-economic development of the Central Highlands and the country, contribute to the "Era of national growth".
