UD-UED held “Vietnamese Tet for International Students” Program
22/01/2026
On the afternoon of January 22, 2026, The University of Danang - University of Science and Education(UD-UED) organized the program “Vietnamese Tet for International Students.” This annual activity aims to introduce and promote traditional cultural values to the community of international students currently studying at the University.
This year’s program attracted more than 350 international students from 26 countries who are currently enrolled at UED–UD.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Vice Rector of UD-UED, Lunar New Year (Tet) is the most important holiday of the year for Vietnamese people. It marks not only the transition into a new year but also a time for family reunions, sharing love and affection, and expressing hopes for good fortune. With the desire to provide international students with a warm and welcoming Tet atmosphere, the University organized the program so that international students could experience Tet firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of the spirit and beauty of Vietnam’s traditional culture.

Within the program framework, international students took part in a wide range of meaningful hands-on activities such as writing wishes and New Year greetings, making banh chung and banh tet, and practicing Vietnamese calligraphy.
During the calligraphy activity, students were guided by artisans and Vietnamese volunteers, learning the meaning behind each stroke as well as the positive, virtuous spirit reflected in Vietnamese cultural traditions.
The banh chung and banh tet wrapping activity also drew enthusiastic participation, helping students learn more about Vietnamese life philosophy, family values, and community bonding. In addition, students had the opportunity to enjoy traditional Tet treats such as candied coconut, candied ginger, cốm cakes, fermented cakes, and other specialties offering a taste of the distinctive Tet flavors from different regions of Vietnam.

“This is the second time I have celebrated Vietnamese Tet. Joining activities such as wrapping banh chung and practicing calligraphy, I was especially impressed by the banh chung wrapping activity because it was unique and interesting. I think banh chung is not only beautiful in appearance but also has a very appealing flavor,” shared Phetmeuangneua Thao, an international student from Laos who is currently studying Vietnamese Language Teacher Education at UD-UED.
The Organizing Committee also presented meaningful souvenirs to international students, including calligraphy works, cakes wrapped by the students themselves, and lucky money envelopes as New Year wishes.

The “Vietnamese Tet” program not only helps international students gain deeper insights into Vietnamese customs, traditions, and spiritual cultural life, but also creates warm and memorable experiences during their time studying and living in Vietnam. The event is also a vivid reflection of UD-UED’s multicultural, open, and internationally integrated educational environment, contributing to the promotion of Vietnamese culture to the world.
