10 highlights and milestones of The University of Danang in 2024

 

1. Successful Celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment and Development of the University of Danang (UD) (1994 - 2024)

 

The anniversary ceremony was held with great formality, drawing high-level leaders from various ministries, departments, central agencies, and localities (including the Minister of Education and Training, the Secretary of Da Nang City Party Committee, and the Commander of Military Region V); organizations, enterprises, universities, as well as UD’s generations of staff, educators, workers, alumni, and students.

The success of this event not only affirms the achievements, milestones, and glorious mission of UD over the past 30 years but also spreads a sense of excitement and pride; it continues to promote the tradition of solidarity and unity to elevate UD to new heights, realizing the aspiration of becoming a National University.

2. Establishment of UD- School of Medicine and Pharmacy

UD- School of Medicine and Pharmacy was established based on the Faculty of Medicine-Pharmacy (Resolution No. 51/NQ-HĐĐH dated May 2, 2024) and has the function of training and conducting scientific research at the undergraduate level (Doctors, Pharmacists, and Bachelor's degrees) and postgraduate level. This milestone brings excitement and adds motivation for the school to strive to develop into UD- School of Medicine and Pharmacy according to the set goals and strategies.

3. UD’s member universities with new Rectors

Along with the ongoing refinement and streamlining of the organization for effectiveness, over the past year, UD has carried out the process of appointing and reappointing the rectorate board of UD’s member universities, as well as the leadership of various departments and affiliated units.

Notably, UD has directed UD-University of Science and Education (UD-UED), UD- University of Foreign Language Studies (UD-UFLS), UD – University of Technology and Education (UD-UTE) to successfully implement the process for appointing rectors. The personnel work has been conducted systematically, carefully, democratically, transparently, and following regulations; the generational transition has been smooth, with inheritance, creating a high degree of unity and consensus, laying a significant foundation for a new phase of development.

4. UD continues to establish itself as a reputable institution for high-quality human resource training.

Quality assurance has always been a top priority for UD. To date, it has 95 training programs that meet domestic and international standards; UD ranks second among Vietnamese universities for the highest number of internationally accredited programs, with 53 of them. UD- University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT) has been recognized for achieving European quality standards (HCERES) for the second cycle (2024 - 2029).


UD has been rated by Quacquarelli Symonds (UK) as being among the Top 421-430 best universities in Asia (an increase of 80 levels from last year), ranked 73rd among Southeast Asian universities in the QS Asia Rankings - 2025; and is in the Top 9 Vietnamese universities on the Webometrics Ranking - 2024.

UD continues to have a successful enrollment season for 2024 (for the first time exceeding 15,000 new students) with quite high entry quality (many majors having top admission scores); it has launched 08 new training programs to meet social and student needs, including a major in semiconductor circuits contributing to the Government's Semiconductor Industry Development Plan. This result affirms the reputation of UD in training high-quality human resources, continuing to be a trusted choice for parents and students.

5. Activities for international cooperation and university- enterprise collaboration have achieved many positive results.

UD, along with its member universities and affiliated units, has organized several major international conferences on topics such as sustainable university development, Antenna measurement and application, Sensor networks and Mobile intelligence, environmentally friendly materials and carbon, and Marketing in the connection era.

UD has effectively implemented The Partnership for Higher Education Reform (PHER), continuing to be a hub connecting a network of esteemed scientists and experts, clearly affirming its strategy to promote collaboration and the internationalization of higher education.

Cooperation with businesses has been strengthened, enhancing facilities for training and practice, such as: UD-DUT collaborated with Thaco Group, Mitsubishi received automatic welding robots, and hybrid electric cars; UD-University of Economics worked with Military Bank to establish a DUE Digital Hub; UD-UTE cooperated with Vconnex Company to deploy "IoT Lab"; and UD- Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology collaborated with Hanwha Life and Childfund Korea to develop the "VKU Fintech Hub"… creating additional resources to improve the quality of education, scientific research, and innovation.

6. Successfully organized the conference on Connecting in training high-quality human resources for the provinces of North Central and Central Coastal regions according to Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW.

The conference gathered over 250 delegates, including leaders, managers, educators, scientists, experts, and entrepreneurs from various agencies, organizations, enterprises, and schools, who contributed their knowledge and enthusiasm through more than 70 selected scientific reports and discussions published in the proceedings.

The conference is extremely significant as it provides an opportunity to share concerns, exchange experiences, and propose effective solutions to further promote effective, sustainable, and substantial connections among the "three houses" (the State - the School, and Enterprises) in training high-quality human resources. This effort contributes to successfully implementing the Party and State's directives, especially Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security for the North Central and Central Coastal regions by 2030, with a vision for 2045, thereby enhancing the prestige of UD as a center for regional and national policy consultation.

 

7. Completion of the handover of the 40-hectare Land Clearance at UD Urban Area

UD has worked with local authorities to complete the land clearance of an additional 40 hectares (Hoa Quy ward, Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang City), bringing the total cleared area in Da Nang City to 78.95 hectares. This is a significant achievement given the many challenges faced in land clearance work in general and serves as a foundation to continue implementing the World Bank's ODA project.

8. The groundbreaking of the Technical Infrastructure project, Sub-project 1 under the ODA Project

With various components such as ground leveling (about 32 hectares); the construction of 08 roads (total length of 4,750 m); a rainwater drainage system (length of 8,300 m); a wastewater drainage system (length of 4,500 m); a wastewater treatment station (capacity of 275m3 per day and night); a water supply and fire protection system (length of nearly 5,000 m); an electricity supply system with medium-voltage cable (length 3,200 m), along with modern lighting, communication systems, and surveillance cameras. The project has a total construction and equipment investment value of over 300 billion VND, providing convenience in accessing and using existing facilities; creating a new look for the entire area.

This important step contributes to realizing the goals of UD Development Strategy to train high-quality human resources for the Central Coast - Central Highlands region and the whole country; opening up many opportunities to attract both domestic and international students to study, conduct research, and live in UD University Urban Area.

9. UD-DUT, and UD-UED have made significant strides in their faculty development.

In terms of the proportion of lecturers with doctoral degrees or higher, UD-DUT boasts the highest rate in the region, reaching 67.35% (twice the national average); UD-UED showed the most substantial increase compared to the previous year, achieving 61.32%. This achievement positively contributes to the growth of UD’s faculty, with one new professor, eighteen new associate professors, and seventy-four new PhDs this year (which is a rate of 47.75%, placing them among the top in the country). This valuable resource ensures the sustainable development of UD.

10. Student Huỳnh Thị Thanh Thủy was crowned Miss International 2024.

At the Miss International pageant held in Tokyo, Japan, Ms. Juynh Thi Thanh Thuy, a Student of UD-UFLS defeated 75 contestants from around the world to win the crown, bringing pride to Vietnam and leaving a lasting impression on audiences worldwide.
