On the morning of November 25, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and representatives of leaders of ministries, branches, Da Nang city at the Announcement Ceremony of Da Nang City Master Plan for the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, representatives of the University of Danang (UD) and Portland State University (PSU), USA have jointly announced a Letter of Intent to promote international cooperation and integration, clearly demonstrating the central and pioneering role in training high quality human resources, actively contributing to the socio-economic development of localities, contributing to the development of the region and the country.

Recently, in an effort to strengthen cooperation with ministries, branches and localities; promote international cooperation; collaborate between Universities and Enterprises, UD received attention and key investment from the Government, restarting and implementing the UD Urban Area Project (Hoa Quy - Dien Ngoc) and is one of three leading universities in Vietnam (along with 02 National Universities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) participating in the Partnership for Higher Education Reform Project (PHER) with US partners for the period 2022-2026.
This is an important premise for UD to strive to implement the major policy and task of developing into a National University according to Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

UD has also just connected, worked and promoted cooperation with Oregon State (USA), including prestigious universities such as: Oregon State University, Portland State University with one of the focuses being cooperation, support UD to train high quality human resources to develop the Semiconductor Industry (please learn more here).
This pioneering mission is a step to concretize the commitment from the recent eventS that UD has signed MOU with 04 leading universities/institutes namely Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Academy of Posts and Telecommunications) , forming an Alliance of core universities to train high quality human resources to develop a key industry Semiconductor chips industry having great potential, catching up with the trend of shifting investment waves to bring high added value, participating in deep integration into the global production network and supply chain.

According to Prof.Dr. James Hook - Associate Dean of Mashee College of Engineering and Computer Science, Portland State University - said that Portland State University has tradition, prestige and strengths in high-tech industries and fields, especially Semiconductor Industry (currently is the second partner providing the largest number of human resources for Intel Corporation globally).
Portland State University wishes to learn and grasp the needs and potentials of UD and Vietnamese localities and businesses, thereby opening up more opportunities to increase cooperation and share experiences in training, researching semiconductor chips industry as well as advanced engineering and technology fields to serve development and raise the country's position and prestige.

According to the Letter of Intent for cooperation signed and announced at an important and meaningful event for the development not only of Da Nang city being determined to play the role of a major socio-economic center of the region and the whole country, but also for the North Central and Central Coast regions, in the coming time, with the goodwill and commitment of support from the Government of Da Nang City and the Oregon State (USA), UD and PSU UD and PSU agree to exercise their best efforts to explore the possibility of future cooperation in the following areas:
(1) Promote collaboration of governance, research and technology transfer to enhance teaching quality to meet the demand of high quality workforce development in various fields, especially the Semiconductor workforce;
(2) Conduct research activities and identify proposal opportunities for joint projects;
(3) Develop joint and articulated degree programs, internship programs as well as promote academic and educational exchanges;
(4) Support reciprocal visits by administrators, professors and researchers;

(5) Cooperatively organize symposiums, workshops and conferences;
(6) Concretizing the orientations and cooperation strategies of the two countries, ministries and branches so that universities can actively demonstrating their roles as driving forces to develop education, science and innovation, bringing values and benefits to serve economic development, for the development of localities and communities.
This event is a new mark, especially in the context that Vietnam and the United States have just established and upgraded the comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development in the new era, thereby vividly demonstrates the connection and strengthening of "triangular connection" cooperation (government-university-business) of UD, contributing to promoting integration and sustainable development.
