Danang News: Initiating new startup projects

09/02/2026

Many universities in the city continuously organize entrepreneurship activities for students. These programs go beyond just ideas, focusing on supporting the development of concrete projects, increasing their applicability, connecting students with mentors and businesses, and helping young entrepreneurs' products reach the market.

Recently, two projects, “ShieldNet - A multi-layered AI system to support and protect cybersecurity” and “MediPath - A digital assistant to support doctors and patients in real-world examination procedures,” from a group of students at the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology - the University of Danang, successfully surpassed nearly 1,500 projects from universities nationwide to reach the top 10 of the UniVentures 2025 startup projects. Each project received a $25,000 prize from the GGV UniVentures Prize and participated in a 3-month (remote) incubation program at the Ho Chi Minh City HUB, opening up opportunities to access a network of mentors, investors, and the regional startup ecosystem.

Both projects were incubated at the Institute of Digital Science and Technology (Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology - the University of Danang), have won numerous awards at various levels, and are gradually improving in terms of technology, business models, and commercialization capabilities.

These results demonstrate the clear effectiveness of startup incubation models in universities. Building on this foundation, the Vietnam-UK Institute for Research and Training - the University of Danang (VNUK) launched a series of innovative startup activities for students, and also introduced the VNUK Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club.

This is promised to be a "nursery" for creative and entrepreneurial ideas among students, creating an environment for union members and students to study, conduct scientific research, and realize their ideas.

According to Dr. Tran The Vu, Deputy Director of the VNUK, one of the higher education institutions under the University of Da Nang, it is a pioneering unit in spreading innovation and entrepreneurship activities among students and the youth community.

VNUK has consistently organized startup competitions for students. This year, it has evolved into a series of competitions called the VNUK Innovation Challenge. This is a platform aimed at fostering an innovation ecosystem right on campus, connecting training, research, and community service.

Through this series of activities, we aim to ignite a passion for scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship among students. By participating in this platform, young people can develop their thinking skills, access modern research methods, and receive experience and creative inspiration from experts.

Dr. Tran The Vu shared: “We are looking for ideas that originate from practical experience, solve real societal problems, and have the potential for sustainable development. Therefore, the competition is designed as an incubation journey, where ideas are challenged, refined, and gradually transformed into products, solutions, and models that can be implemented in real life.”

Sharing the same orientation of linking scientific research with practice, the University of Science and Education - the University of Danang organized a meeting and collaboration with nearly 30 businesses operating in various innovation fields in the city to strengthen the connection between the university and businesses in research, incubation, and development of young human resources.

Associate Professor Vo Van Minh, the school's principal, stated that in the coming period, the school aims to restructure its training model towards a research-based approach, directly serving the development of applications and technology transfer.

Currently, the university has formed six key research groups responsible for priority science and technology tasks; at the same time, it is strengthening the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support; the research groups are being invested in with modern laboratories, creating a flexible mechanism to directly connect research groups with market needs.

According to Announcement No. 45-TB/TGV of the Working Group of the Central Steering Committee on Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation, Da Nang University is one of four universities selected for key investment to serve as a model for the Vietnamese higher education system.

Therefore, according to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, President of the University of Danang, to achieve the above goal, the University of Danang always prioritizes strengthening university-business cooperation, linking the three parties (State - university - enterprise) to create momentum and breakthroughs in the development of training, science, technology and innovation, entrepreneurship, serving the socio-economic development of the region and the country.
