Education and Times Newspaper: Expanding the learning and working space from the classroom to businesses for students

18/04/2026

In response to the demands and development context of strategic industries and sectors, and to improve the quality of human resource training, the University of Da Nang (UD) proactively collaborates with corporations and businesses to create more opportunities for students to practice and intern, connecting the classroom with practical production and business.

This is one of the tasks assigned to UD by the Central Steering Committee on Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation: "to implement a 6-month co-op (learn-work) program to create high-quality human resources" (Conclusion Notice No. 45-TB/TGV).

Connecting businesses with the co-op learning-work program

UD has recently signed cooperation agreements with CT Group in Ho Chi Minh City, the Management Board of Da Nang High-Tech Park and Industrial Zones, and businesses operating in the Da Nang High-Tech Park. The parties will collaborate on a "co-op learning-work" program for students, focusing on engineering and technology fields such as: Semiconductor Microchips, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation, Logistics, etc.

This is a new direction, forming a training ecosystem linked to practice, bringing mutual benefits: Businesses proactively approach and select high-quality human resources; participate in the training process, provide feedback, and update programs to be closer to reality. Schools extend and expand the learning, research, and creative space for students from the classroom to factories and enterprises. Students are guided by lecturers and business experts, learning "practically and professionally," helping them integrate quickly into a professional and modern work environment.

For example, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) - UD collaborates with NiX Education to implement a bilingual Vietnamese-Japanese IT engineering program. According to Associate Professor Huynh Ngoc Tho, Vice Rector of VKU-UD, approximately 250 students from various cohorts have participated in the program, all receiving free Japanese language training from the company; support with textbooks and professional learning materials; and significantly increased practical training time at Japanese companies.

For instance, student Nguyen Thi Thanh Van (Class 21JIT) improved her Japanese language skills to N3 level through the program and was accepted by Deha Solutions for a "learn-work" program from January to June 2026 in Tokyo, Japan.

Similar to the collaborative model of the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology (FAST), University of Science and Technology (DUT) - UD  has continuously connected with international businesses over the years to provide scholarships for students to intern abroad. "For example, students in the Vietnam-France High-Quality Engineering Program (PFIEV) intern for two months at Logi VietFrance and then for another three months at La Soget (Le Havre, France) as Software Development Engineers. The company covers all expenses (visa application, round-trip airfare, accommodation in France, train tickets, lunch); and students receive a monthly internship salary (approximately 600 Euros). After completing the internship, students have the opportunity to work officially at Logi VietFrance with a starting salary of approximately 26 million VND/month," shared Dr. Nguyen Le Hoa, Head of the FAST Faculty.

Extending the classroom to the business world

Member universities of UD are proactively opening new training programs based on specialized training models, in cooperation with businesses, such as: Aerospace Engineering (fully in English), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology; Business English, Chinese Language, Japanese Language, Korean Language... This is a suitable direction to anticipate the wave of FDI businesses from Asian countries needing high-quality human resources, creating opportunities for students to expand their internship and practical experience at businesses.

According to Dr. Nguyen Huu Anh Vuong, Head of the Training Department at the University of Foreign Languages - UD, the breakthrough in implementing the co-op program is that it goes beyond short-term internships as before. Instead, the university collaborates with businesses to arrange full-time internships for students in the final semester, following a "business semester" model. As a result, graduates have a higher chance of employment, gain more experience, hone their expertise, and develop the thinking and skills that meet the requirements of businesses.

Furthermore, to integrate with the highly open labor market, member universities of the University of Da Nang focus on strengthening foreign language proficiency through full-time/part-time training programs in English. For example, the University of Economics - University of Da Nang offers programs such as: International Business, E-commerce, Digital Marketing, Financial Technology… In 2026, the university will launch the Elite Bachelor Program: Taught entirely in English, with a select number of students, and project-based learning with guidance and advice from experienced entrepreneurs.

VKU-UD encourages and promotes 100% of its final-year students to complete and defend their graduation theses in English. These positive results not only extend the connection between the classroom and businesses but also contribute to improving the quality of human resources, ready to meet the needs of attracting investment, developing sustainable businesses, and contributing to the strategy of establishing an International Financial Center or Free Trade Zone in Da Nang city.
