Events to celebrate 30th Anniversary of establishment of the UD: 6th Young Creators Festival and Student Scientific Research Award Ceremony for the 2023-2024 Academic Year

On the morning of October 12, 2024, at University of Foreign Language Studies - the University of Danang (UD), the 6th Young Creators Festival 2024 took place with the theme "Digital Transformation - Startup and Innovation Space”. The "Student Scientific Research Award (SSR) for the 2023-2024 academic year" was also presented. This event marks the celebration of the 30th anniversary of UD's establishment and development (1994-2024).

The event was attended by the UD’s leaders, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, President of the UD; Dr. Phan Minh Duc - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Council of UD; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son – Vice President of the UD, Head of Organizing Committee; Dr. Vo Xuan Hoai - Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center (NIC), Ministry of Planning and Investment; Ms. Le Thi Thuc - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang city; Mr. Mai Tan Linh - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang city; Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thao - Deputy Secretary of Da Nang Youth Union.

Also in attendance were representatives from sponsoring organizations such as BIDV Bank - Hai Van Branch, Viettel IDC; along with business partners including Sun Edu International Education Corporation, Qorvo Vietnam, and Song Han Startup Incubator. Leaders from member universities and affiliated units of the UD were present, as well as representatives from UD's offices, departments, and centers. Faculty advisors, students/groups with research projects or products receiving awards, and a large number of students also participated and cheered for the event.

Overview of the ceremony.

In his speech at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son, Vice President of the UD, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests, faculty members, and students attending the series of events at the Festival and Exhibition, as well as the presentation of the Student Scientific Research Awards for the academic year 2023-2024, and launched the awards for the academic year 2024-2025.

The UD leadership representative emphasized the significance of the event series celebrating 30 years of UD's establishment and development, inspiring innovation and entrepreneurship among UD students.

As a leading centre for training and scientific research in the country, the UD clearly defines its mission to cultivate high-quality human resources, enhance scientific research, and promote innovation, focusing particularly on high-tech sectors. Digital transformation and innovation are seen as key drivers for contributing to the development of a knowledge-based economy, creating value from growth, and transitioning to green practices, leveraging breakthrough technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain technology, and semiconductor technology.

This represents UD's strength in keeping pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, aiming to bring about fundamental and profound changes that gradually replace traditional production and business models.

The UD’s leader announced that it has recently signed cooperation agreements with several prestigious domestic and international partners, including Global Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts in France (AVSE Global), the National Institute of Technology in Japan, and the NIC Centre of the Ministry of Planning and Investment. These agreements have led to the implementation of collaborative programs connecting with localities and businesses, such as EVN, Truong Hai, Fujikin, and UAC.... This enhances networking and expands the collaboration among scientists, managers, and experts, “contributing to the fulfillment of national strategic tasks and regional development objectives.”

The UD’s Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son highlighted the outstanding achievements of UD students over the past academic year, typically the First Prize of the National Student Scientific Research Award, the First Prize of the national SV STARTUP- Startup Competition, Champion of the GBA-2024 Young Innovation Award organized by the German Business Association, many awards in national and international Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, Informatics and programming...

On this occasion, the leader representatives of the UD sincerely thanked the ministries, central agencies, localities, and businesses, especially the Da Nang city, for their partnership and coordination with the Department of Science and Technology, as well as the sponsoring units and partner universities. Their support has significantly contributed to promoting research activities among UD students, creating opportunities and environments for students to showcase their talents, capabilities, and learn research and innovation experiences, resulting in valuable ideas, products, and projects that serve the community.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu awarded the First Prize of the Scientific Research Student Award at UD level for the 2023-2024 school year

At the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu awarded the First Prize for the "UD Student Research Award for the academic year 2023-2024" to two outstanding student groups who surpassed 25 topics in the final round at UD (selected from hundreds of project entries at the departmental and institutional levels):

In the fields of Engineering and Technology, Natural Sciences, and Medical Sciences: The First Prize went to the student group of Doan Anh Van, Nguyen Quang Vinh, Nguyen Tan Quy, Pham Thanh Vy, and Duong Thi Thanh Ha from University of Science and Technology - UD for their project: “Research on algorithms for multi-location leak detection in water pipelines and adjusting output pressure through a 4G network.”

In the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities: The First Prize was awarded to the student group of Le Kha Tuyet Phuong, Nguyen Thi Hong Ngoc, Phan Thu Ngan, and Tran Kim Bao Phuc from University of Economics - UD for their project “Exploring the impact of Gratifications on the Behavioural Intention of Voice Assistants' users: A cross-cultural study.”

The winning student groups received certificates of merit from the UD Director and a cash prize of 20 million VND for each award.

The UD and member universities’ leaders awarded three Second Prizes to student groups:

In the fields of Engineering and Technology, Natural Sciences, and Medical Sciences: The Second Prize went to the student groups of Ho Thi Thu Hang, Nguyen Thanh Phuc, Hoang Anh Son, and Huynh Quynh Anh from University of Science and Technology - UD for their project “Sediment suction system in water tanks,” and the student group of Le Tho Minh Hieu, Truong Thi Anh Nguyet, Nguyen Nguyen Hung, Chu My Duyen, and Do Minh Trong from the School of Medicine and Pharmacy for their project “Research on the quality of sleep among medical students and associated factors.”

In the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities: The Second Prize was awarded to student Pham Minh Tuan from University of Science and Education - UD for his project “Social work activities in caring for the mental health of workers in Da Nang city.”

The student groups receiving Second Prizes were honoured with certificates of merit from the UD President and a cash prize of 15 million VND for each award.

Three Third Prizes were awarded to student groups from University of Science and Education - UD for their project “Creating a Braille printing machine for converting textbooks and materials for teaching visually impaired students,” the student group from the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology - UD  for their project “Building and developing a model for detecting pronunciation errors in Vietnamese,” and the student group from University of Foreign Language Studies - UD for their project “Exploring the Negative Transfer of Mother Tongue on English Speaking Performance of Third-Year EFL Students at UD-UFLS.” The student groups receiving Third Prizes were honoured with certificates of merit from the UD President and a cash prize of 8 million VND for each award.

Three Consolation Prizes were awarded to student groups from University of Science and Technology - UD for their project “Research on applying artificial intelligence to support autonomous vehicles,” the student group from the University of Danang - University of Technology and Education for their project “Solid hydrogen storage technology in smart cities,” and the student from the University of Danang - University of Economics for their project “Who cares about your Green Reputation? Evidence from Financial Watchdogs.” They received certificates of merit from the UD President and a cash prize of 5 million VND for each award.

At the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu and Dr. Vo Xuan Hoai, Deputy Director of the NIC Center, signed an Addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) previously signed, focusing on NIC’s support for UDN in establishing the Institute of Semiconductor Technology and AI, pioneering in training high-quality human resources and promoting research and innovation in this advanced technology field.

The UD President Nguyen Ngoc Vu and Mr. Luu Hue Tien, General Director of Sun Edu International Education Joint Stock Company, signed an MOU to promote cooperation in specialized training, especially in the semiconductor industry, enhancing innovation and entrepreneurship in schools.

The leaders of the UD and the delegates visited the student innovation exhibition.

The delegates, teachers, and a large number of students visited and experienced the exhibition of representative research and innovative products of students from the UD, featuring over 50 topics and products displayed across 15 booths. This exhibition showcases a vibrant picture of the research results, applications, and the vast potential of students, including: an IoT system for monitoring soil quality using LoRaWAN wireless networks; an AI application system for remote medical consultations; a smart plastic sorting device; and a social media platform to support the mental health of young people.

Within the framework of the Festival, the NIC Centre summarized and announced scholarships and awards for the Digital Talent Development Program implemented in the Central region for 2024.

Participating students had the opportunity to interact with speakers who are esteemed managers and experts in the field of innovation, such as Mr. Trinh Khac Hue, General Director of Qorvo Vietnam, and Dr. Vo Xuan Hoai, Deputy Director of the NIC Centre, who shared valuable information about opportunities and challenges as well as the role and potential of high-tech fields like semiconductors and AI, inspiring students to study, research, innovate, and start their own businesses.
