02/07/2025
Recently, the research team from UD-UED excellently secured the top award in the Plastic Innovation Program (PIP), a program jointly organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, with funding support of 30,000 USD.
The research team includes members: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kieu Thi Kinh (Faculty of Early Childhood and Primary Education); Vo Xuan Cam Thuy, a postgraduate student; and Hoang Minh Thien, an alumnus of Environmental and Resource Management.

According to a representative from the Organizing Committee, the PIP Program Award, launched on February 26, 2025, attracted 116 initiatives from organizations and research teams nationwide by its conclusion. From these, 12 teams were rigorously selected to receive financial support and participate in the acceleration phase.
The research team from UD-UED was honored to be among the top 6 teams with highly feasible initiatives, excellently winning the highest award with a USD 30,000 grant.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kieu Thi Kinh, the team's initiative involves piloting a Material Recovery Facility (MRF)at the dormitory of UD-UED. This pilot has yielded positive and highly feasible results, suggesting it can be replicated and applied in schools, apartment buildings, and residential areas across Da Nang city. This model focuses on the collection, sorting and recycling of waste, particularly plastic waste, in compliance with the 2020 Environmental Protection Law.
The project not only contributes to raising environmental awareness within the community but also promotes the development of a circular economy, tailored to the practical conditions of schools, dormitories, and apartment buildings in urban areas.

With the secured funding, the research team will have additional resources to implement and expand this model to educational and residential communities across Da Nang city, promoting a green lifestyle, rapidly reducing waste, encouraging waste sorting at the source, and boosting recycling.
This result is not only a source of joy and motivation for the research teams at UD-UED, but it also enhances the university's reputation and academic standing. It highlights the university's role in connecting training and research for sustainable development, aligning perfectly with the program's slogan towards a plastic-waste-free community.
