Semiconductor workshop at UD-VKU: Orienting the Future, Creating Opportunities

03/04/2025

On the morning of March 28, 2025, The University of Danang - Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (UD-VKU), in collaboration with Connexus Limited Company, successfully held a workshop titled “Architects of Intelligence: Semiconductors and Vietnam’s Ascent.” The event aimed to provide students with in-depth insights into the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries, while fostering career prospects and research collaboration between academia and industry.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Tran The Son, Vice Rector of UD-VKU, warmly welcomed delegates and emphasized the strategic importance of the integrated circuit (IC) design industry in the university's development. As a leading institution in information technology, communications, and digital economy education in Vietnam, UD-VKU currently enrolls nearly 7,000 students.

Since 2023, UD-VKU has taken pioneering steps in launching a specialized program in IC Design Engineering. The inaugural intake successfully enrolled 70 high-achieving students with entrance scores of 27 or higher ranking among the nation’s top. In addition, approximately 150 students from the Computer Engineering Technology program have transitioned to IC Design, bringing the total number of students in this field to nearly 300. The university continues to strengthen its ties with both domestic and international partners to enhance training quality and research capabilities, meeting the growing demand for high-quality human resources in the semiconductor industry.

Dr. Tran expressed his deep appreciation for Connexus’ active support of UD-VKU students, particularly through their involvement in the recent Smart City Microchip Design Competition, and expressed hope for continued collaboration in research, product development, and technology transfer.

Representing Connexus, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, CEO of Connexus Limited Company, shared her excitement about collaborating with UD-VKU. As a dynamic startup in electronic microchip design, semiconductor R&D, software development, and AI processor design, Connexus aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Ms. Loan affirmed that the partnership would not only help students gain access to cutting-edge technologies but also play a critical role in shaping the future workforce of the microchip industry. Connexus looks forward to welcoming top-performing UD-VKU students into its professional environment in the near future.

The workshop featured in-depth discussions led by industry experts on the role of semiconductors in the digital era, emerging trends, and the transformative impact of AI. A dedicated career panel provided students with invaluable insights into career pathways, key industry demands, and essential skills required for success. The interactive session allowed students to engage directly with experts, ask questions, and receive tailored advice bridging the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world industry expectations.

At the event, Connexus also committed to supporting UD-VKU students through internship programs and hands-on experiences in real-world working environments. In addition, they will assign experts for career counseling, orientation, and direct recruitment at job fairs. Both parties agreed to promote joint research collaboration in semiconductor chip design and AI, aiming towards technology transfer and product commercialization.
