From December 15-19, 2024, within the framework of the cooperation between the University of Danang (UD) and Thaksin University, three students from the UD (including two students from the University of Foreign Language Studies and one from the University of Technology and Education) had opportunity to participate in the Innovation Camp at Thaksin University in Songkhla, Thailand.

As part of the program, students from the UD, along with peers from Malaysia (University of Wollongong KDU) and Thailand (Thaksin University), engaged in joint learning sessions on social development projects and explored local culture through visits to the historical city of Songkhla and experiences with Southern Thai cuisine.

Le Anh Van, a student from the University of Technology and Education, shared: “The most wonderful thing about this trip was the friendship. The camp brought me friendly, enthusiastic, and lovely international friends. From our initial meetings, small conversations, and greetings from strangers when we just landed at the airport, I felt a sense of closeness and connection. I also had the chance to showcase the dynamism and enthusiasm of the UD’s students during team-building activities with friends from other countries.”

Van added that participating in the 2024 Innovation Camp at Thaksin University provided students with opportunities to explore traditional Asian cultures, improve foreign language skills, and foster independence. “At first, the differences in language and culture posed significant challenges, especially with ceremonies requiring respect in Thailand, like avoiding touching others’ heads. However, thanks to the enthusiastic support of Thai students, I quickly adapted to the vibrant atmosphere of the camp.”

Dang Nguyen Uyen Phuong, a student from the University of Foreign Language Studies, shared: “I had the opportunity to visit Thaksin University’s museum, where artifacts and stories about the history and cultural traditions of Songkhla were displayed. This helped me better understand the formation and development of this vibrant land. Additionally, practical activities such as learning traditional Thai dances and the ‘wai’ greeting - a signature gesture of respect in Thai culture - left a lasting impression on me.”

Phuong further noted: “Meeting and getting to know new friends was also a highlight of this journey. Together, we participated in paired/group challenges, shared stories, learned basic Thai vocabulary, and decorated objects reflecting Thai aesthetics.”

For her part, Nguyen Dieu Uyen, another student from the University of Foreign Language Studies, expressed: “Through this trip, I realized the importance of integration and cultural exchange between countries, as it enhances mutual understanding and respect among nations, minimizes conflicts, and fosters international cooperation.”

Dieu Uyen also remarked: “It contributes to economic development, creativity, and innovation while preserving and promoting cultural identity, forming the foundation for building a united and peaceful global community.”
