On October 14, 2024, the leaders of the University of Danang (UD) received and worked with the delegation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Education and Sports of Savannakhet province, Laos. Attending the meeting were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Quang Son - Vice President of UD; Mr. Souksomphone Anothay - Director of the Department of Education and Sports; Ms. Malaythong Thammatika - Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Savannakhet province, Laos; Mr. Viengsomnhoth Southivongnolath - Head of Border Management Department of the Department of Foreign Affairs; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Vice Rector UD - University of Science and Education (UD-UED).

Also attending were representatives of relevant departments of UD (Science and International Cooperation, Academic Affairs and Educational Quality Assurance, Planning and Financial Affairs, Student Affairs); representatives of the Department of Science and International Cooperation of UD-UED, and experts from the Department of Education and Sports, Foreign Affairs of Savannakhet province, Laos.

Speaking at the reception, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Quang Son - Vice President of UD welcomed the leaders and the delegation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Education and Sports of Savannakhet province, Laos, to visit and work with UD; sincerely thanked the provincial leaders for trusting and sending their young generation to study at UD to build a team of intelligentsia, contributing to the development of the locality "worthy of the name of Savannakhet which is the Golden Land", building and developing a prosperous and happy Laos.

The representative of UD introduced to the delegation an overview of UD as a national key regional university, which has received investment from the Government to develop into a National University, one of the three leading training and scientific research centers of Vietnam with the mission of training high-quality human resources to serve the socio-economic development of the central highlands and the whole country, including training human resources of Laos and Cambodia.

With a tradition and rich experience of more than 22 years of training international students, up to now, UD has trained more than 2,500 Laotian students and trainees and currently more than 600 Laotian students are studying at UD.

Inheriting the advantage of being located in Da Nang with the title of "a city worth living and visiting" and close to Laos localities, UD is considered a reliable and convenient address for Laotian students, especially those from the central provinces of Laos, including Savannakhet. Hopefully, through this visit and work, the leaders of the departments and authorities of the province will continue to support, trust, and create conditions for students to study and research at UD, Vice President of UD Le Quang Son shared.

Mr. Souksomphone Anothay - Director of the Department of Education and Sports, Savannakhet Province, Laos expressed the joy of the working delegation having the opportunity to visit and work with UD and sincerely thanked the leaders of UD for the warm and respectful reception.

According to the representative of the Department of Education and Training, Savannakhet Province, Laos, since 2013, more than 300 Laotian students of the province have studied and graduated from UD; most of them have had stable jobs after graduation, contributing to the development of the locality and the country of Laos. In the working group, there are some former Laotian students of UD-University of Science and Education and UD-University of Science and Technology are also being planned and developed to take on high positions.

With grateful appreciation to UD for its important contribution in training human resources for Savannakhet province, the representative of the working delegation hopes that more and more students from the province will come to study at UD; at the same time, sharing some shortcomings when the training quota for the locality is still limited but  high demand for pedagogical training due to  lacking of teachers as well as difficult conditions of some Laotian students, hoping to receive support from the university as well as the Vietnamese side to provide more scholarships, "treating Laotian students as family members to help them study well".

The representative of the UD leaders shared that this year, UD is planning to award 18 scholarships to Laotian students from the budget of the Government, Da Nang City and UD; hoping that local leaders will pay attention to help select qualified students, and coordinate with the Lao Consulate General in Da Nang in managing Laotian students, especially learning Vietnamese before coming to study at UD (Savannakhet has a center to teach Vietnamese for students). In addition, UD hopes that the locality will pay attention to recommend prospective to come to UD to self-funded study.

In a friendly and sincere atmosphere, the two sides agreed to continue to coordinate and create favorable conditions for Laotian students to study with peace of mind, achieve good results and return to contribute to the country and homeland.
