The legacy of UD alumni: From the Polytechnic Classroom to an International Publication Award and a Prestigious PhD Scholarship in Europe

03/07/2026

Former student of the Faculty of Information Technology, the University of Danang - University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT), Quang Tien, has recently celebrated two remarkable milestones. In June 2026, he embarked on his doctoral journey under the prestigious International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems (IMPRS-IS) scholarship in Germany, following his team’s achievement of the IROS Best Entertainment and Amusement Paper Award, with their research paper ranked among the Top 5 out of 1,991 submissions.

Reflecting on his undergraduate years at UD-DUT, Quang Tien shared that he had always been passionate about exploring fundamental sciences, believing them to be the key to understanding and broadening his perspective of the world.

Driven by his enthusiasm for learning and research, he expressed his aspiration to join NetSec-IT Lab, a research group established by Dr. Le Tran Duc. This opportunity was followed by his participation in the Vietnam Summer School of Science, marking the beginning of his research journey involving data processing, experiments, and scientific publications.

With the guidance, mentorship, and recommendation of Dr. Ninh Khanh Duy during his graduation thesis, Quang Tien was awarded a scholarship to pursue higher education abroad. He subsequently received a scholarship to undertake a master's degree program at Ritsumeikan University, Japan, further advancing his international academic and research career.

Through continuous academic and research training from his undergraduate years at UD-DUT to the rigorous Master's programme in Japan, Quang Tien built a strong academic profile and research portfolio, ultimately earning a prestigious PhD scholarship in Europe.

Sharing his advice with current students, Quang Tien emphasized the importance of proactively building a solid foundation of disciplinary knowledge while continuously developing critical thinking, independent learning, research capabilities, and literature review skills. More importantly, students should persevere in addressing real-world problems, as such experiences form valuable preparation for their lifelong pursuit of knowledge.

According to him, becoming a successful researcher requires not only in-depth expertise but also the ability to communicate research findings effectively, disseminate knowledge, and contribute meaningful value to the academic community. Such engagement helps researchers gain confidence while earning support and collaboration throughout their academic journey.

In his message to current students, Quang Tien described UD-DUT as a nurturing environment where generations of students are encouraged to pursue their aspirations and ambitions. He encouraged students to embrace new learning opportunities, step beyond their comfort zones, and confidently face the exciting opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
