On the morning of July 4, 2025, at University of Science and Education (UED) - the University of Danang (UD), the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), in coordination with the Danang City People's Committee, UD, and UD-UED, organized a Rally in response to World Environment Day 2025 with the theme "Combat Plastic Pollution." On this occasion, MOET launched the Action Month for the Environment across the entire Education Sector.

Attending the event were: Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Minister of MOET; Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Danang City People's Committee; Mr. Hoang Hoa Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology, and Information, MOET; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan, Vice President of UD; Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuan, Director of the Danang Department of Education and Training; Mr. Le Cong Hung, Secretary of the Danang Youth Union; Dr. Vu Thi Bich Hau, Deputy Director of the Danang Department of Agriculture and Environment; Prof. Dr. Vo Van Minh , Rector of UD-UED.

Also attending the event were representatives from leaders of agencies, departments, and local authorities; the Department of Science and International Cooperation of UD; leaders from the Board of Rectors, departments, faculties, lecturers, and over 300 students from universities in the area.

Speaking at the Ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc stated that this is a meaningful annual event, an opportunity for the entire education sector to unite and act decisively for a green, clean, and sustainable environment.

Emphasizing the globally significant and timely theme launched by the United Nations Environment Programme, "Beat Plastic Pollution," the representative leader from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) shared that with a force of over 23 million students and more than 1 million cadres, lecturers, and teachers, this is a core force not only in disseminating and creating new knowledge and technology but also in pioneering the spread of green lifestyles and promoting action for a sustainable planet.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc  shared information from the recent ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (SEAMEO), where "green and sustainable education" was identified as one of the four priority "pillars" for the region, alongside digital transformation and human resource development.

Based on this, Vietnam is actively implementing an action program to fulfill international commitments, including the goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. The representative leader from MOET expressed the wish and urged educational institutions nationwide, along with the community, to focus on three key directions:

1-Innovate environmental communication methods with the support of technology;

2-Integrate environmental education into both official curricula and extracurricular activities;

3-Engage in practical actions, starting with small changes (such as avoiding single-use plastics, prioritizing recycled products, etc.) and spreading the message of collective action within the community.

Expressing Da Nang city's agreement and high determination, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Danang City People's Committee, stated that coastal cities like Da Nang are also being affected and impacted by climate change and environmental pollution, including plastic waste pollution.

With the goal and orientation of becoming an "environmental city," Da Nang has implemented many synchronous solutions such as green space planning, launching the movement ""Say No to Single-Use Plastics,," supporting communities in sorting waste at the source, and aiming to reduce plastic waste into the ocean by 50% by 2030.

On this occasion, the representative of Da Nang city leadership commended  UD-UED as one of the leading higher education institutions with significant contributions to environmental protection. This is exemplified by creating green learning spaces, organizing applied research activities for environmental protection, integrating environmental education into training programs, and promoting green action movements among lecturers and students.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Minh, Rector of UD-UED, the university has always shown deep interest and actively contributed to the green transformation process, especially in education. This commitment reflects their social responsibility through practical activities, ensuring that it is not only a place for teaching  but also a leader in guiding the younger generation to act, pioneering the integration of environment as a central and pervasive theme in training and research for the community.

Alongside the rally, several practical activities were held to spread meaningful educational messages. These included gifting commemorative green trees, showcasing model green school initiatives and activities, awarding prizes for the Creative Video Contest on Plastic Pollution Reduction, exhibiting recycled products, and hosting student presentations on their action commitments.

"Every small action, when done regularly and spread, will create a significant change. For a green, clean environment and a sustainable future, we, the students, will not just talk, but are determined to act," expressed Ho Pham Tam Nhu, a student from UD-UED.
