26/12/2024

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of development of the University of Danang - UD (1994-2024), the Center for Information Learning Resources and Communication - UD respectfully introduces the article in Nhan Dan Newspaper: "Towards becoming a national university" published on November 15, 2024.

Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW and Conclusion No. 79-KL/TW of the Politburo outline the tasks and solutions to develop the UD into a national university. This is the political foundation and important premise for the University to continue to carry out its mission of training high-quality human resources, one of the three strategic breakthroughs for national development according to the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

Promoting the 30-year tradition of construction and development

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, President of the UD, 30 years ago, the Government established the UD under Decree No. 32/CP (April 4, 1994) as one of three regional universities, along with two national universities, as the core of national education reform and international integration.

With the 30-year tradition of formation and development of the UD and nearly 50 years of its member universities, the UD has trained and provided hundreds of thousands of engineers, economic managers, experts, teachers, scientists, and businessmen in many key fields and professions, making positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the North Central and Central Coast regions as well as the whole country.

The UD is also a bright spot in the national university education system in terms of quality assurance, educational accreditation and international cooperation. University of Science and Technology - UD is one of the first four universities in Vietnam to be accredited to meet HCERES European quality standards (from 2017 to present). The UD’s member universities are pioneers in accreditation and achieving domestic quality standards (from 2016 to present). The UD is in the top 3 universities with the most training programs meeting national and international standards in the country with 95 programs, of which 53 ones meet foreign standards (AUN-QA of Southeast Asia, CTI and ASIIN of Europe).

Focusing on connecting with ministries, branches, central agencies, closely cooperating with localities in the Central Highlands and the whole country, the UD promotes a team of intellectuals who actively research, apply and transfer science and technology; participate in building, commenting and criticizing policies; organize many big scientific conferences, thereby promoting international publication (each year, on average, there are more than 500 scientific articles in prestigious international journals WoS/Scopus).

The international reputation of the UD is increasingly enhanced, demonstrated through a wide cooperation network, connecting with more than 300 partners which are universities and businesses around the world; being an active and core member of prestigious international organizations such as: Francophone Universities Association (AUF), Southeast Asian University Network (AUN) and recently the first non-continental member of the European ULYSSEUS University Alliance.

Striving to become a national university

Entering a new development stage, the tasks and solutions to develop the UD into a national university are stated in Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW dated November 3, 2022 of the Politburo on socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Central Highlands and Central Highlands by 2030, with a vision to 2045, and Conclusion No. 79-KL/TW dated May 13, 2024 of the Politburo on continuing to implement Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW on building and developing Danang city by 2030, with a vision to 2045.

The Government issued Resolution No. 169/NQ-CP dated September 30, 2024 implementing the Action Program to implement Conclusion No. 79-KL/TW, including the tasks and solutions of "Prioritizing the allocation of resources to complete the UD Urban Area, build the UD to become a national university".

The role of the UD in the national university education system is even more evident when joining forces with the two national universities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and major pioneering universities in training, research and innovation, especially in key industries such as: Semiconductor, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, financial technology, tourism, logistics, industries serving the marine economy... to keep up with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, ready to welcome the wave of investment shift, participate in the global production network and supply chain.

The achievements of the UD over the past 30 years are enormous and comprehensive. They are the efforts and intelligence of both lecturers and students of the University on the journey of construction and development. Promoting the tradition of solidarity and creativity, the UD focuses on successfully implementing the Development Strategy to 2030, vision to 2045, focusing on the University Urban Area Project (in Hoa Quy - Dien Ngoc), the project Partnership for Higher Education Reform (PHER) contributing to the successful implementation of the goals and Resolutions of the Party.

To seize opportunities and overcome challenges, in addition to greater self-efforts and higher determination, the UD wishes and hopes to continue to receive the attention, support and direction of the Government, ministries, central and local branches, especially the Ministry of Education and Training and Danang City as well as the community to turn great aspirations into reality.

Building the UD into a national university is an important, urgent, strategic and long-term task. This is not to change the name but to fundamentally innovate, create mechanisms, policies, and governance models with high autonomy, focus on key investments to become the "nucleus" that gathers other higher education institutions in the region into a strong university cluster; capable of taking on the core role in the mission of developing high-quality human resources in the Central Highlands and Central Highlands in the context of development, rising strongly with major economic regions, becoming "one of the three leading training and scientific research centers in the country, with prestige and position in the region and internationally.
