On January 16, 2025, the University of Danang (UD) held the Workshop on “Developing Human Resources for the Semiconductor Industry” and the Admissions Ceremony for the Microchip Design Training Course in Danang.

The program was organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment in coordination with the Asia Foundation; the UD hosted this event of practical and academic significance.

Attending the workshop were Mr. Do Tien Thinh - Deputy Director of NIC; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Bac – Vice President of the UD; Mr. Filip Graovac - Vice Chief Representative of Asia Foundation in Vietnam; Mr. Le Hoang Phuc - Director of the Center for Research and Training on Microchip Design and Artificial Intelligence of Da Nang (DSAC); representatives of relevant departments of the UD (Academic Affairs and Educational Quality Assurance, Science and International Cooperation, Student Affairs), member universities of the UD, other universities in the Central - Central Highlands region; experts from schools, institutes, enterprises related to the semiconductor field, along with staff, lecturers, students.

Speaking at the opening of the Workshop, Mr. Do Tien Thinh - Deputy Director of NIC shared the opportunity to develop high-quality human resources to serve the semiconductor industry, especially when Da Nang is creating policies, infrastructure and human resources to support the promotion of this key economic sector.

The representative of NIC highly appreciated the role of the UD as well as its partner, the Asia Foundation, in organizing the Workshop, thereby creating a forum, raising awareness and determination to act, proposing ideas, solutions and experiences on what Da Nang should do to promote the development of high-quality human resources in semiconductors; suggesting models of cooperation training (3+1, 2+2) or taking advantage of the support of partners, businesses, universities with strengths and experience as the UD is implementing with potential partners (United States, Japan, Korea, Taiwan (China).

NIC representative said that through the Workshop, the organizing committee hopes to continue to connect, form a consulting network in training, mobilize resources to support learners to continue pursuing the promising Semiconductor industry; connect with businesses and investors to create more jobs and income for students and graduates. This is also an opportunity to promote communication in training human resources for key industries such as Semiconductor so that society and learners can feel the urgency and the demand in the context of integration and competition for the Semiconductor Industry not only at the national level but also regionally and internationally.

At the Workshop, NIC representatives introduced the overview and key features of the Vietnam Semiconductor Industry Human Resource Development Program, thereby highlighting the role and prospects for regional and international expansion of the key economic sector in the face of the opportunity to take the lead in the wave of investment shift into Vietnam, in which Da Nang city is striving to become a destination attracting investors and a center for training high-quality semiconductor human resources.

According to Mr. Le Hoang Phuc - Director of DSAC Center, Da Nang City is very interested in, has preferential policies, encourages investment for businesses as well as activities, especially students studying Semiconductor Circuits. DSAC Center has signed and implemented cooperation with 3 member universities of the UD that have recruited and trained undergraduate students in Semiconductor Circuit Design, thereby promoting strengths and mobilizing common resources.

Dr. Tran Dinh Khoi Quoc – Director of the Department of Academic Affairs and Educational Quality Assurance - UD reported a speech with the topic: "Solutions to attract and develop semiconductor circuit human resources".

The UD is the university that initiated and established the Alliance of leading universities with its partners, the two National Universities, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, to promote the training of high-quality human resources in key industries such as Semiconductor Microchips.

Up to now, three member universities of the UD, namely University of Science and Technology, University of Technology and Education, and Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, are training the first batch of this industry, attracting many excellent students with high input quality and top admission scores in the country.

With the close guidance and support of the UD, member universities and training units pay great attention to developing the potential of their staff and lecturers, connecting with domestic and international universities and institutes, especially partners with experience and potential in semiconductors such as the United States, Taiwan (China), South Korea, etc., thereby enhancing capacity, potential, and supplementing equipment with laboratories and practices on Semiconductor Microchips.

In addition to that, the UD’s member universities have proactively coordinated with experts and partners, including NIC, to open training courses on Microchip Design for lecturers, students in relevant fields to meet immediate and long-term needs, contributing to improving the quality of training and scientific research.

At the Workshop, experts, entrepreneurs from prestigious organizations and enterprises discussed and participated in a forum to share opportunities and challenges in training high-quality human resources for the semiconductor sector, co-chaired by Mr. Do Tien Thinh, Mr. Filip Graovac, Dr. Tran Dinh Khoi Quoc, Mr. Nguyen Bao Anh and Mr. Le Hoang Phuc.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee officially announced the enrollment of the Microchip Design Training Course in Da Nang in 2025 with the professional support of the partner, Acronics Solutions Company, which has experience operating in the field of Microchip Design on modern FPGA technology.

According to the representative of the Organizing Committee, Acronics provides training programs, practical equipment, especially the entire process of microchip design, control programming, circuit board design. Its manufacturing and packaging will be carried out in Vietnam ("Made in Vietnam"). It will also introduce experts/lecturers, including lecturers of the UD, to participate in teaching and guiding students in practice to proactively grasp and master new technologies.
