The University of Danang in connection with regional development

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of establishment and development of the University of Danang (UD) (1994-2024) and the Conference on Connection to train high quality human resource for North Central and Central Coastal provinces in the spirit of Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo, the Center for Information Learning Resource and Communication – UD in collaboration with the Danang Newspaper has carried out a special issue. The Center respectfully introduces the article “Connecting to regional development” in this special issue.
Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the North Central and Central Coast regions to 2030, with a vision to 2045, emphasizes that “regional development linkage is an inevitable trend, a driving force for connection and leading development…”. With a tradition of the past 30 years, the UD has the potential and aspiration to become a national university, demonstrating a core and cohesive role in training high-quality human resources, “carrying out national strategic tasks and regional development tasks of the country”.

Promoting potential to realize great aspirations
As a key regional multi-disciplinary university, after 30 years of construction and development; inheriting and promoting the nearly 50-year tradition of its member universities, up to now, the UD has affirmed itself as a leading training and scientific research center; a cradle for training high-quality human resources, making an important contribution to the development of the Central Highlands region in particular and the whole country in general.
The achievements and development marks of the UD over the past 30 years are outstanding and comprehensive in all aspects such as: perfecting the organizational system including 6 member universities and affiliated training units with a strong team of nearly 2,600 staff, of which the proportion of lecturers with doctoral degrees or higher is over 48% (University of Science and Technology reaches nearly 70%); developing the current scale of more than 60,000 students, with most of the training fields/majors to meet the requirements of society and learners, especially key economic sectors, core technology, source technology. Through the admission seasons, the UD has recruited successfully with high quality input, some majors have top admission scores in the country, and is a reliable training address in the choice of parents and students.
In addition, the scientific and technological activities and international cooperation of the UD are increasingly flourishing. Every year, the UD has more than 250 topics at the state/ministerial/provincial/municipal levels that are researched, transferred, applied in practice to serve the community; publishes an average of more than 500 scientific articles in prestigious international journals (WoS/Scopus); has a wide cooperation network with hundreds of partners which are prestigious organizations, universities, research institutes, and enterprises around the world...
The UD is ranked by prestigious university quality accreditation organizations, highly appreciated in terms of its position domestically and internationally, with the highlight being that University of Science and Technology is recognized as meeting HCERES international standards (from 2017 to present).
Accompanying for sustainable development
The UD always attaches importance to and continuously improves the quality of training. To implement this strategy, in recent years, the UD has focused on training high-quality human resources based on basic pillars.
Accordingly, strengthening the connection with high schools on STEM education and foreign languages to improve input quality; promoting cooperation with enterprises to closely link training and effective use of output; focusing on connecting with ministries, branches and localities in connecting supply and demand of human resources, building, giving comments and scientific criticism to serve the socio-economic development requirements of localities, contributing to the development of the region and the country.
Implementing Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW of the Politburo on continuing to fundamentally and comprehensively innovate education and training, including "gradually making English the second language in schools", the UD has resolutely directed its member universities to open more advanced programs, international cooperation, English teaching, encouraging and supporting students to improve their foreign languages, meeting the national foreign language proficiency framework.
The practical effectiveness of academia - industry cooperation shows many common benefits in training programs, improving the quality of human resource training.
Students are supported, granted scholarships and have more opportunities for internships, career development, employment and innovative startups. The member universities are equipped with practice and experimental equipments from the companionship of businesses.
