The students group AMIGO from University of Economics – the University of Danang (UD) has proposed and applied the initiative to connect young volunteers to jointly construct the traffic culture in Vietnam.

The above-mentioned project overcame 262 other ones which were previously selected by the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and eventually was awarded among the Top 10 “Vietnam’s voluntary projects 2020”.

The students group AMIGO received the award.

With the goals of raising awareness, changing behaviours of young people and the community, contributing to creating a culture of safe, civilized and friendly traffic environment, the UD’s team of students has launched a series of initiatives: promoting online communication through bilingual Facebook fanpage “Traffic Safety in Vietnam” (www.facebook.com/TrafficSafetyInVietnam); establishing a group of volunteers to support foreign tourists in traffic; collecting images and videos of traffic safety violations, etc.

The fanpage “Traffic Safety in Vietnam” propagates the knowledge and legal regulations on traffic safety in Vietnam through vivid visual illustrations and video in 2 languages of Vietnamese and English.

Through this method, the students’ initiative contributes to mobilizing Vietnamese youth to comply with the law; sharing images and videos of the community; introducing humane situations, words, attitudes and actions in traffic; thereby spreading the traffic culture among young people and the community, etc.

Another highlight of the project is the idea of establishing the group of volunteers to support foreign tourists (www.facebook.com/groups/tnvhotrodulich) that brings together foreign languages-fluent students in famous tourism destinations in Vietnam. These students will assist and guide foreign tourists in traffic, recommend traffic safety regulations as well as answer tourists’ questions of traffic during their stay in Vietnam.

Through the posting of news pieces, video clips about tourists’ trips with the companionship of volunteers, the project has contributed to relieving foreigners’ mind about the shortcomings of traffic in Vietnam, thereby not only raising awareness of traffic culture but also promoting the tourism images of Vietnamese people and country.
