Cross sectoral dialogue about SDGs 2024

The University of Da Nang (UD) and its member universities are actively reinforcing their commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by initiating and participating in a series of significant cross-sectoral dialogues. These events strategically gather academics, government representatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and industry experts to forge solutions for pressing sustainability challenges.

A prime example is the Vietnam Symposium in Climate Transition (VSCT-2024) (December 12-13, 2024). This high-level symposium was co-organized by University of Economics - UD, the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts (AVSE Global) (a prominent NGO), and Massey University (New Zealand) (international academia). The forum provided a critical platform for stakeholders from "governments, corporations, and civil society" to collaborate on strategies for a just transition, directly addressing SDG 13 (Climate Action). Bringing together over 200 policymakers, business leaders, and researchers, the symposium served as a policy incubator for actionable strategies toward a just climate transition- directly contributing to SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

University of Technology and Education - UD organized the 9th International Conference on Applying New Technology in Green Buildings (ATIGB 2024). This event fosters international collaboration among "researchers and industry professionals," creating an essential dialogue between academia and the construction industry to advance SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

At an institutional level, UD hosted the international workshop, "Sustainable university development: Opportunities and challenges" (November 13, 2024). This high-level policy dialogue brought together "domestic and foreign educational institutions, scientists, and lecturers" to strategize on higher education's role, targeting SDG 4 (Quality Education) (specifically 4.7) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

This commitment is also evident in the development of the online course "Sustainable development strategies in the digital age at UD" (August 22-23, 2024). This is a collaborative project under the PHER (Partnership for Higher Education Reform), an initiative involving international partners (supported by USAID) and Vietnamese universities, clearly demonstrating a cross-sectoral partnership to build capacity for SDG 4 and SDG 17.

Another noteworthy initiative is UD’s participation in the international project HEIsCITI – “Higher Education Institutions as Innovative Triggers of Sustainable Development in European Cities in the Post-COVID-19 Era.” Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union (2022–2025), the project connects universities, NGOs, and local authorities from Europe and Asia to strengthen the role of higher education institutions as catalysts for sustainable and inclusive urban transformation. Throughout 2024, UD actively engaged in a series of international workshops and coordination meetings, both in-person and online, to exchange best practices, co-design training materials, and discuss strategies for integrating sustainability principles into higher-education governance and curricula. Within this framework, UD has contributed to the development of universal curricula, methodologies, and digital teaching tools that promote collaboration among academia, policymakers, and communities.

This engagement further demonstrates UD’s strong commitment to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through its active participation in a truly cross-sectoral and transnational partnership. Through these diverse and collaborative initiatives, the University of Da Nang is not just participating in the conversation on sustainable development; it is actively facilitating the essential cross-sectoral dialogues needed to achieve global and national SDG targets. UD’s consistent engagement across education, climate action, and innovation reflects its long-term vision to become a regional center of excellence in sustainable development - driving evidence-based policymaking, fostering inclusive partnerships, and nurturing future leaders for a more resilient and equitable world.
