08/10/2025

On October 7, 2025, the 2025–2026 International Cooperation (IC) Briefing Conference of the University of Danang (UD) took place at UD - University of Economics (DUE). Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, President of UD and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Huy, Rector of UD - DUE, co-chaired the event.

Attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Phuc, Vice Chair of the UD Council; leaders of the Office, the Party–Mass Organizations Office, and relevant UD departments;  UD - Institute of Advanced Science and Technology, UD - Danang International Institute DNIIT; vice rectors in charge of international cooperation from UD’s member universities; leaders responsible for IC from the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, and VN–UK Institute for Research and Executive Education; leaders of departments of UD -  University of Foreign Language Studies (UFLS); as well as IC officers and specialists from UD’s units.

Opening the briefing, UD’s President Nguyen Ngoc Vu emphasized that international cooperation is one of UD’s five strategic orientations to mobilize resources, enhance international reputation, and advance sustainable integration and development.

The President called for constructive proposals to address bottlenecks and shortcomings; to overcome limitations; and to recommend focal solutions concerning strategic partners, key stakeholders, and IC channels to deliver outcomes commensurate with UD’s potential and the breakthrough requirements of the new context.

At the conference, the leadership of UD’s Department of Science and International Cooperation presented an overview of IC performance in academic year 2024–2025 and recent periods, highlighting: promulgation and implementation of internal regulations to strengthen IC governance; accelerated signing and implementation of cooperation agreements; exchanges of faculty, students, and international experts; and joint training and research projects.

According to the report, UD’s IC management has focused on standardizing processes and ensuring consistency in administration; expanding and deepening its partner network with substantive, effective MOUs/MOAs; reinvigorating two-way student exchanges; strengthening joint training, launching English-taught programs; pursuing international accreditation; and hosting numerous scientific conferences that attracted reputable scholars and experts-contributing to UD’s dynamic, internationally integrated image (ranked Top 3 in Vietnam for the International Collaboration – Relative to Country indicator).

Alongside achievements, the Department candidly identified both internal limitations and external constraints, proposing directions and solutions to promptly remedy issues and successfully implement 2025–2026 tasks, thereby contributing to national and Party policies on international cooperation, including Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW.

Representatives of member universities and units endorsed the report’s assessments and raised practical issues, offering orientations and solutions—new models, effective practices from the grassroots level and shared experiences for appropriate application, especially in the current context.

Discussion focused on: strengthening capacity of IC personnel; building and optimizing data systems for operations and digital transformation; benchmarking key indicators against leading universities to drive more decisive measures for enhanced IC effectiveness; developing partner networks and clubs of staff, faculty, and students with overseas study/research experience; improving the attraction, training, and dedicated services for international students; and building a sustainable IC ecosystem.

In his concluding remarks, President Nguyen Ngoc Vu appreciated the constructive contributions. He noted that on September 30, 2025, Notice No. 45-TB/TGV of the Secretariat of the Central Steering Committee on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation stated that four universities: Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; UD; and Hanoi University of Science and Technology were selected for prioritized investment as models for the higher education system. This is a significant opportunity and honor for UD, coupled with a call for the highest sense of responsibility, strong commitment, and decisive, synchronized, and effective implementation.

President Nguyen Ngoc Vu provided clear directions both strategic and actionable for immediate rollout:

Mindset and approach: Embrace new ways of thinking and doing; shift from passive to proactive modes. Leadership at all levels must be highly proactive in guidance and execution, with clear ideas, orientations, and determined implementation.

Partnerships: Build on traditional strengths with strategic partners in Anglophone and Francophone spheres (UD is a member of AUF and the first Vietnamese member of the European University Alliance Ulysseus), Japan and Korea, and Europe (notably EU and Erasmus+). Expand engagement with ASEAN, China, and Taiwan (China). Diversify partners for deeper, more substantive, and effective cooperation to continually broaden UD’s international partner landscape.

Member university strengths: Leverage unique advantages for example, UD - UFLS should strive to become a multilinguistic and multicultural hub for IC—while all member universities and affiliated units harness faculty potential and align training, research, and IC as pillars of institutional strategy.

Faculty and student exchange: Move beyond project-dependent exchanges by mobilizing domestic, international, and socialized resources to refine policies that attract renowned foreign scientists and experts for teaching and research collaboration at UD; scale up two-way student mobility; and create more international internship and experiential opportunities to nurture global citizens.

Academic programs: Continue articulation pathways (3+1, 2+2); expand English-taught programs in line with Conclusion No. 91; and develop joint and dual-degree programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with partner universities.

Capacity building: With forthcoming prioritized investment, more opportunities will emerge for faculty and research groups to advance at leading global universities. UD should prepare strong candidate pipelines, particularly for PhD training, to meet breakthrough development needs in education and training.

Events and implementation: Elevate the caliber of international events—conferences, seminars—toward greater professionalism and ceremony, especially in receiving, working with, and signing with partner delegations (venue, participants, attire, protocol, reception, services). Focus on substantive, timely implementation of signed agreements. Prioritize reporting, information exchange, and building robust IC data systems across units to ensure discipline, quality, and timeliness.

UD will soon implement a system of evaluation indicators as a basis for ranking, emulation, and commendation; and establish a steering committee to promote international cooperation and industry engagement - aiming for system-wide cohesion, strong effort, and high determination to meet the objectives stated in Central Notice No. 45. President Nguyen Ngoc Vu emphasized UD’s guiding ethos: Respect - Discipline - Cooperation - Professionalism - Effectiveness.
