Member universities of The University of Danang (UD) have actively supported local authorities and communities in early warning and climate risk monitoring through implementing scientific research projects, organizing thematic workshops, and proposing planning solutions based on scientific and practical foundations.

Research and Application of Science and Technology

- University of Science and Technology - UD and other units have carried out numerous provincial and city-level science and technology (S&T) projects, focusing on climate risk and environmental issues:

- Flood assessment and response: Implemented a Quang Nam provincial-level project on "Assessing flood evolution and proposing flood response solutions for Tam Ky city in the context of urbanization and climate change" (2021-2023), applying solutions in Tam Ky.

- Water resource management: Conducted a Da Nang city-level study on "Researching and evaluating the efficiency of the operation process according to the inter-reservoir operation procedure on the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin" (2022-2023).

- Forest fire prevention: Currently implementing a Quang Nam provincial-level project on "Researching techniques for creating green firebreaks for forest fire prevention in Quang Nam province."

- Biodiversity protection: Implemented a Quang Nam provincial-level project on "Developing a database and smart management system for flora biodiversity in special-use forests of Quang Nam province" (2021-2023), applied by Forest Protection Departments and Nature Reserves in Quang Nam province.

- Environmental remediation: Implemented Da Nang city-level projects on "Researching and developing plans for environmental and ecological remediation and restoration of mineral extraction areas in Da Nang city" and "Researching to identify plant species for waste treatment areas in Da Nang city."

Policy and Planning Recommendations

- Urban drainage planning: The University of Science and Technology reported on scientific plans and solutions to propose the "Adjustment Project for Da Nang's Urban Ground Elevation and Surface Drainage Planning to 2030, with a Vision to 2045" at a scientific workshop organized by the City People's Committee.
This contribution directly supports local authorities in managing flood risks and responding to climate change.

Organization of Thematic Workshops

Member universities have organized and co-organized numerous international and domestic workshops, contributing to knowledge sharing, raising awareness, and building response capacity:

Climate Change and Environment:
- University of Economics - UD, in coordination with the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts Global (AVSE Global) and Massey University, New Zealand, co-organized the International Conference on Climate Change 2024 (VSCT-2024).

- University of Technology and Education - UD organized the 3rd International Conference CMEE-2024 "Carbon and Materials for Energy and Environment" with the companionship and coordination of ChungBuk National University, Seoul National University, the Korea Clean Technology Association, and the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology.

Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change:
- University of Science and Education - UD coordinates with the Management Board of the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve and the Women's Union of Hoi An City to organize the workshop "The Role and Position of Schools, Communities, and Stakeholders in Building and Developing Community-Based Learning Tourism - Educational Tourism".
