A seminar “Studying Abroad, Scholarships - Promoting Educational Cooperation between Vietnam and Italy”

On October 15, 2024, the seminar “Studying Abroad, Scholarships - Promoting Educational Cooperation between Vietnam and Italy” was held at The University of Danang (UD). The event was organized under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, the Italian Embassy in Hanoi, and the Uni-Italia Vietnam Office.

Attending the event were Mr. Enrico Padula, Consul General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son, Vice President of UD; Mr. Marco Abbiati, Scientific Attaché of the Embassy of Italy in Vietnam; representatives from the Uni-Italia Office and experts from Italian universities; leaders of relevant departments of UD (Training and Educational Quality Assurance, Science and International Cooperation); along with many students and high school students from Danang city.

In his speech at the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son warmly welcomed the Embassy of Italy to Vietnam, the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Uni-Italia Office, as well as representatives and experts from the Italian universities, for bringing valuable opportunities for information exchange, scholarships, and studying abroad, contributing to enhancing educational cooperation at UD.
This was an opportunity for all parties to explore and discuss the needs for cooperation in education and training, strengthen faculty and student exchanges, and foster academic and cultural collaboration between Italian universities and UD in particular, and education in Vietnam in general.

UD’s senior representatives introduced an overview of UD, highlighting that this year marks its 30th anniversary of establishment and development, while also looking forward to the 50th anniversary of its member universities, which continuously affirm their mission to train high-quality human resources for the Central Highlands region and the entire country.
UD has received significant investment from the government, aiming to develop into a National University by 2030, with a vision towards 2045, to become one of the top three centres for training and scientific research in the country, gaining recognition in the region and internationally.

To achieve these strategic goals, UD prioritizes the continuous enhancement and deepening of international cooperation, particularly with universities in Europe and Italy (which have longstanding ties with institutions such as POLIMI, University of Bergamo, University of Brescia, and University of Genoa), especially within the Erasmus KA2 Project.
Recently, UD became the first official member outside the continent of the Ulysseus European University Alliance, affirming its international prestige and commitment to promoting Asia-Europe university cooperation and integrating with global higher education.

The senior representatives of UD expressed their desire that the seminar would provide a significant opportunity for UD’s staff, faculty, and students, as well as high school students in Danang, to learn more about studying abroad and student exchange opportunities with various scholarships from the Italian government and reputable universities, thereby contributing to the enhancement of educational cooperation.

According to Mr. Enrico Padula, Consul General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, the seminar signifies the connection between Italian universities and Vietnam, with the UD being a major centre for training and scientific research; it serves as a chance to strengthen cooperation, participate in European projects, and contribute to nurturing the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Italy shortly, focusing on cultural and educational exchange.

During the program, representatives from the Italian Embassy, the Uni-Italia Office, and partner universities acknowledged the demand and potential for cooperation, providing and sharing useful information about scholarship opportunities, application processes for courses, and student visa procedures for Italy.

Students interacted and received Direct Consultation at the Seminar
Representatives from the University of Milan, the University of Padua, the University of Modena Reggio Emilia, the University of Bergamo, and others introduced and addressed the concerns of students, particularly in fields where they have traditional strengths (economics, architecture, design, engineering, and arts). This was truly a vibrant day of exchange focused on educational cooperation and study abroad opportunities, opening many avenues for international student exchanges.
