New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam visited and worked with the University of Danang

On June 27, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, President of the University of Danang (UD), chaired a meeting with H.E.  Tredene Dobson, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, in her visiting and working with UD. 

Also attending were Ms. Le Thu Ha - Policy Advisor of the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam; Representatives leaders of Office of Administrative Affairs and relevant departments of UD (Academic Affairs, Science Technology and Environment, International Cooperation, Student Affairs); Representatives of the Board of Rectors of the University of Danang – University of Foreign Language Studies and the Departments of Science and International Cooperation of UD’s member universities, such as: The University of Danang - University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT), The University of Danang - University of Economics (UD-DUE) and the University of Danang – University of Foreign Language Studies (UD-UFLS).

At the meeting, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of UD respectfully welcomed and appreciated the visit to UD of Ms. Tredene Dobson - New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam.

The President of UD introduced to the New Zealand Ambassador the overview and highlights of UD, which is currently a national key regional university, multi-disciplinar and multi-field including 06 member universities and affiliated units.

With a tradition of nearly 50 years of training and providing high-quality human resources, UD has actively contributed to the socio-economic development of the Central Highlands region and the whole country.

UD receives attention from the Vietnamese Government and prioritizes investment in key projects to continue to develop to be one of the country's three leading scientific research and training centers, with prestigious and international position.

​In its development strategy, UD always attaches importance to the quality of training, scientific research, international cooperation and cooperation with businesses as "03 main focuses"; focusing on connecting and collaborating more and more deeply with universities, organizations and businesses in Vietnam and abroad, including New Zealand partners, UD President Nguyen Ngoc Vu shared.

The President of UD expressed his wish and hope that the New Zealand Ambassador will pay attention and support as a connection for UD to cooperate with more partners such as universities, organizations and prestigious enterprises from New Zealand, thereby promoting exchange activities of lecturers, experts, scientists and students; collaborating to participate in joint research projects, contributing to solving urgent issues for sustainable development. UD is ready to accept international students and interns, including students from New Zealand, to exchange and participate in academic and extracurricular programs during the summer.

Talking with UD leaders, Ms. Tredene Dobson, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, expressed her joy and honor to visit and work with UD and sincerely thank the President of UD for giving the delegation a respectful welcome.

Sharing her impressions and good feelings towards the beautiful and hospitable Da Nang city, the Ambassador said this is a place with a lot of potential and this is a suitable  time for New Zealand partners to strengthen connection, cooperation and development in the coming time.

Appreciating the Vietnamese students studying abroad in New Zealand, including UD students with their efforts in studying and researching, the Ambassador acknowledged the suggestions and goodwill of UD leaders and expressed her readiness to connect so as to strengthen cooperation between New Zealand universities, organizations and businesses with UD in general and member universities and affiliated units under UD in particular.

New Zealand partners have strengths, suitable for the development requirements of Da Nang city, the Central Coast region as well as for UD's training and research programs in the fields of seaports, industry, high-tech agriculture, etc.

In an atmosphere of understanding and sincerity, UD leaders and the New Zealand Ambassador shared common interests with proposals for connection and cooperation content, including proposals for scholarships for UD’s staff, lecturers and students; connecting with prestigious New Zealand universities and research institutes to accept graduate students through Project 89; enhancing the exchange of lecturers and students between UD and New Zealand universities; international training links; coordinating to organize seminars and conferences; researching to establish the "New Zealand Corner" at UD, etc.

Within the visit to UD, Ms. Tredene Dobson New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam also gave a talk at The University of Danang - VNUK Institute for Research and Executive Education (UD-VNUK), thereby leaving many impressions and sharing useful knowledge and sustainable development thinking for staff, lecturers and students.
