Professor Gerard't Hooft – Dutch Nobel laureate in Physics visited and gave a lecture at the University of Danang, A prestigious and reliable destination gives wings to students to discover scientific knowledge

On the morning of August 3, the University of Danang (UD) coordinated with the Rencontres du Vietnam and the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) to organize a  Public Science Talk on "Discovering the Universe" of Professor Gerardus 't Hooft – the Nobel Prize in Physics (1999) for UD’s staff, lecturers, and students; teachers and students from high schools in Da Nang, Quang Nam province (Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted) and Quang Ngai province (Le Khiet High School for the Gifted, Tran Quoc Tuan High School, Vo Nguyen Giap High School, Tu Nghia No. 1 High School, Binh Son High School).

This was a meaningful event to inspire the spirit of learning and passion towards scientific research and innovation for UD’s lecturers and students as well as high schoolers to give wings to discover scientific knowledge of students.

At the opening of the talk show, Assoc. Prof. Le Quang Son expressed his honor to welcome Prof. Gerardus 't Hooft and Dr. Nguyen Trong Hien to visit UD and share information on the attractive scientific topic " Discovering the Universe" with UD’s staff, lecturers/researchers and students.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son highlighted the role and mission of UD as one of the leading universities in Vietnam, not only in training and scientific research but also as a place to converge and connect international and domestic scientists to co-bring new values ​​and knowledge, contributing to the high-quality human resources training, scientific research, technology transfer and the international integration process of higher education in Vietnam.

With a long tradition of nearly 30 years of construction and development, and nearly 50 years of high-quality human resources training of UD’s member universities, UD has nearly 2,600 staff and lecturers, of which there are nearly 50% have doctorate degree and above. UD's facilities are continuously invested synchronously and modernly to meet the requirements of training and scientific research scale (nearly 60,000 students, graduates, and international students).

Shared public scientific knowledge, inspiring students' passion for scientific research

 

“UD has a cohesive network in training, scientific research and international cooperation with hundreds of partners who are prestigious universities, scientific and educational organizations, and businesses in the world; On average each year, more than 500 projects, research topics, and innovative applied products are published in prestigious international journals (WoS, Scopus), especially in fields related to Physics. In 2022, there were 44 scientific research projects published in the Scopus database” said Vice President Le Quang Son.

This event was a great opportunity to help students expand their knowledge and vision; ignite the flame of passion for scientific research and innovation, especially for those who love Science and Physics; Since then, it has continued to strengthen the cooperation between UD and other domestic and foreign higher education institutions, including the Netherlands, the hometown of Prof. Gerardus 'T Hooft.

With the theme "Discovering the Universe", Professor. Gerard't Hooft gave a presentation to share the knowledge and discoveries that he has worked hard and passionately research for many years such as the mysteries and wonders in the vast universe about black holes, quantum gravity, standard field theory in particle physics, quantum theory, hologram principle...
