Semiconductor workshop at UD-VKU: Orienting the Future, Creating Opportunities

On the morning of March 28, 2025, The University of Danang - Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (UD-VKU), in collaboration with Connexus Limited Company organized a Semiconductor Workshop with the topic “Architects of Intelligence: Semiconductors and Vietnam’s Ascent” to provide in-depth knowledge about the semiconductor and AI industry, while opening up career opportunities and research cooperation between the university and businesses.

The workshop welcomed representatives of Connexus Limited Company, including Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan - Co-founder & CEO, and Mr. Vo Tung Phan – Co-founder & CTO. On the UD-VKU side, there was Dr. Tran The Son – Vice-Rector of UD-VKU, along with leaders of Departments, Faculties, and nearly 200 lecturers and students interested in the field of semiconductor and artificial intelligence.

In his opening speech, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of UD-VKU sent his greetings to the delegates and guests and emphasized the important role of the IC design industry in the development of UD-VKU. UD-VKU is one of the leading training institutions for information technology, communications, and digital economy in Vietnam, with nearly 7,000 students at present. In particular, UD-VKU has pioneered the training of IC Design Engineers since 2023 and has successfully enrolled 70 students in the first IC Design course with an entrance score of 27 points or higher, ranking among the top scores nationwide. At the same time, UD-VKU has also transitioned nearly 150 students from Computer Engineering Technology to IC Design, bringing the total number of IC Design students being trained at the university to nearly 300 students. The university has been promoting cooperation with domestic and international organizations and enterprises to improve the quality of training and research, meeting the demand for high-quality human resources in the microchip industry. UD-VKU highly appreciates Connexus’ cooperation in supporting UD-VKU students, especially in the recent Smart City Microchip Design Competition, and hopes that Connexus will continue to accompany UD-VKU in research, product development, and technology transfer.

Representing Connexus, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, Connexus’ CEO, expressed her honor to cooperate with UD-VKU in this workshop. Connexus is a start-up operating in the field of electronic microchip design, semiconductor chip research and development, software, and AI processor design. The cooperation between Connexus and VKU not only helps students access new technology but also contributes to training high-quality human resources for this industry. Connexus hopes to have the opportunity to welcome excellent students from VKU to work at the company in the future.

At the workshop, the speaker emphasized the importance of the semiconductor industry, development trends, and application potential when AI has become increasingly popular. In addition, the workshop also included a career discussion section with the participation of experts in the fields of semiconductors and AI. Here, experts discussed job opportunities, career development paths as well as necessary skills for students to succeed in this field. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and receive useful advice from experts.

Immediately after the workshop, the leaders of UD-VKU and Connexus had a private discussion on future cooperation opportunities. The two sides agreed to implement specialized teaching programs on IC design at UD-VKU, helping students access practical knowledge from businesses. In addition, Connexus is committed to supporting UD-VKU students in internship programs, creating opportunities for them to experience a real working environment. The company also expressed its desire to participate in UD-VKU’s recruitment events such as the UD-VKU Job Fair to connect with potential human resources. Finally, the two sides also agreed to cooperate in researching projects related to semiconductors in combination with AI, aiming at the goal of technology transfer and product commercialization.

The workshop “Architects of Intelligence: Semiconductors and Vietnam’s Ascent” not only provided in-depth knowledge about the semiconductor industry but also opened up many cooperation opportunities between UD-VKU and Connexus. The meeting between the two sides laid the foundation for a sustainable relationship, contributing to improving the quality of training and connecting UD-VKU students with the semiconductor industry, a field with strong development potential in Vietnam.
