UD and Hessen State Representative Office in Vietnam award scholarships to outstanding students in Central Vietnam

The University of Danang (UD), in cooperation with the Hessen State Representative Office in Vietnam, on March 20 awarded WUS-Hessen scholarships to 34 outstanding students from Central Vietnam for the 2025 - 2026 academic year, including 10 from UD.

Each scholarship is worth EUR 216 (approximately VND 6.5 million), bringing the total value of this year’s awards to more than VND 220 million. The program is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture in partnership with the World University Service (WUS).

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Bui Cong Tho, Head of the Hessen State Representative Office in Vietnam, said the WUS-Hessen scholarships are a prestigious, long-running program that has supported Vietnamese students for 35 consecutive years.

In addition to prioritizing students in Central Vietnam, the program also pays special attention to female students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have demonstrated determination in their studies and personal development, he added.

Dr. Bui Cong Tho expressed hope that the support from the State of Hessen would help students maintain and further improve their academic performance, broaden their research opportunities, and open pathways for future study and work in Germany.

Representing UD’s leadership, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Bac, Vice President of UD, thanked the German partners—especially the Hessen State Representative Office in Vietnam - for their long-standing support for education and training in Vietnam.

He said international cooperation and student support remain among UD’s key priorities, noting that scholarship programs such as WUS-Hessen help nurture ambition, responsibility, and resilience among young people.

Congratulating the recipients, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Bac encouraged them to continue striving in their studies and self-improvement and to contribute positive values to the community.

Also addressing the event, Dr. Nguyen Toan Thang, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam–Germany Friendship Association, highlighted the role of the WUS-Hessen Scholarship in strengthening friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Germany.

He expressed appreciation to the Hessen State Representative Office in Vietnam and the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture for their sustained support for Vietnamese students over many years.

On behalf of the recipients, Truong Phong Le Thuy, a student majoring in Mathematics Teacher Education at the University of Danang – University of Science and Education, shared her personal story of overcoming hardship.

She said the scholarship was not only meaningful financial support but also a sign of recognition, trust, and encouragement from international partners. The award, she added, would motivate her and other recipients to continue pursuing academic success and personal growth.
