On August 24, 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, President of the University of Danang (UD), chaired a meeting and signing ceremony with Prof. Lee Chi-Kin John, President of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), China, who also serves as Director of the Institute for Education Development and Innovation and leads the Curriculum and Pedagogy discipline.

Also attending the event were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Bac, Vice President of UD; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Long, Rector of UD - University of Foreign Language Studies (UFLS); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Vice Rector of UD - University of Science and Education (UED); Prof. Neri Ferrante, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and lead of the Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence discipline; Mr. Xiao Sizhe Jesse, Director of the Office of Development and Research; Ms. Florence Ng Tsz Yan, Head of Research and External Relations, Office of Development and Research; representatives of relevant UD departments, including Department of Academic Affairs and Educational Quality Assurance, Department of Science and International Cooperation, and Department of Student Affairs, Corporate Relations and Communications; as well as representatives of Offices of Science and International Cooperation of UD-UED and UD-UFLS.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, President of UD, expressed his pleasure in welcoming the delegation from EdUHK to UD for a working visit and cooperation signing ceremony. He highly appreciated the international reputation of EdUHK, which is ranked among the world's leading universities in the field of education.

Introducing an overview of UD and its outstanding features, President Nguyen Ngoc Vu emphasized that UD is a key national regional university with a multidisciplinary and multi-field structure, comprising six member universities and three affiliated and subordinate training units.

With more than 2,600 faculty members and staff and approximately 60,000 full-time students, UD is among the leading higher education institutions in Vietnam in terms of scale, offering and conducting education and research across almost all major disciplines and fields.

Over more than five decades of establishment and development through its member universities, UD has trained and supplied a large pool of technical professionals, economic and management experts, educators, and entrepreneurs who have made significant contributions to socio-economic development in the Central and Central Highlands regions as well as throughout Vietnam.

Many UD alumni have achieved distinguished careers, with numerous graduates holding key positions in government agencies, organizations, businesses, and educational institutions, while making active contributions to major national projects and initiatives.

With its role, traditions, capacity, and mission, UD has the honor of being selected by the Central Government as one of four universities to receive focused investment as models for the development of Vietnam's higher education system. UD aims to rank among the Top 150 universities in Asia by 2030. To realize this goal, UD has identified five strategic directions, with expanding international cooperation and strengthening close partnerships with businesses as key priorities to mobilize additional resources for sustainable development.

Highlighting the significance of the signing ceremony, President Nguyen Ngoc Vu stated that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the two sides would not only establish a framework and general directions for cooperation but also open up substantial potential for deeper collaboration. The MOU is expected to be gradually translated into specific Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) and practical cooperation programmes, creating greater opportunities for students to study, exchange, and gain international academic experiences.

Addressing UD's leadership, Prof. Lee Chi-Kin John, President of EdUHK, China, expressed his pleasure and honor at visiting UD, working with its leadership, and signing the cooperation agreement. He expressed his hope that the two universities would become closely connected and trusted partners, working together toward mutual development.

The President of EdUHK shared his appreciation of the development of higher education in Vietnam. He noted that, since 2019, he had been involved in a project team working with the World Bank and the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam under the Teacher Development Programme. Through this work, he had opportunities to collaborate with several leading teacher education universities, including UD-UED, contributing to the mission of enhancing the quality of training for educational managers and teachers across the national education system.

Prof. Lee Chi-Kin John expressed his sincere appreciation to UD's leadership for the warm and respectful reception and for signing the cooperation agreement on this important occasion. He expressed his confidence that the agreement would open up promising opportunities for effective, long-term, and sustainable cooperation between the two universities.

At the meeting, the participants shared common interests and proposed ideas, solutions, and directions for cooperation in various fields, aiming to leverage their respective strengths and potential. Particular attention was given to opportunities for collaboration between EdUHK's member and affiliated academic units and UD-UED and UD-UFLS, thereby translating the shared vision and strategic orientations of the two institutions into concrete initiatives.

UD's leadership expressed confidence that the signing of the MOU would expand the scope of cooperation beyond faculty and student exchanges to include the establishment of joint research groups, the development of joint degree programmes and co-supervision arrangements, the promotion of educational innovation initiatives, international research projects, and the development of academic cooperation networks connecting Vietnam with Hong Kong, China, and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Under the MOU, UD and EdUHK will focus on promoting cooperation in key areas, including faculty and student exchanges; short-term training and professional development programmes; undergraduate and postgraduate joint training programmes; opportunities for students to undertake internships and participate in international exchange activities; joint research and academic exchanges; exploration of research funding opportunities; co-organization of academic conferences and seminars; and sharing of teaching and learning resources.

On this occasion, representatives of UD-UED and UD-UFLS signed Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) with EdUHK to launch student exchange programs.

EdUHK is a public university with strengths in science, education, social sciences, and humanities, as well as teacher education. It has earned strong international recognition, ranking 7th in the world and 2nd in Asia in Education in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, and 34th worldwide in Education Studies in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026.
