10 outstanding highlights and events of the University of Danang in 2023

1. The leader apparatus of the University of Danang (UD) and its member universities are accomplished

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has a decision on recognizing the re-appointment of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu as President of the UD under the term of the Council of the UD (2021 – 2026)

The Council of the UD has resolutions on extending the term of office/re-appointing/appointing the Vice Presidents of the UD: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Bac, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan.

The Board of Rectors of member universities and leaders of affiliated units have been strengthened, in which University of Science and Technology, University of Economics, University of Science and Education have new rectors.

2. The project to develop the UD into the National University is promoted

The Government issued the action program (Resolution No.168/NQ-CP) to implement Resolution No.26-NQ/TW of the Politburo on “socio-economic development and assure of regional defense and security in the North Central and Central Coastal region to 2030, with a vision to 2045”; Prime Minister approved “Danang City’s planning in the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050” (Decision No. 1287/QĐ-TTg); the MOET included the content “developing the UD into the national university”in the Planning for the network of higher education and pedagogical institutions for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

The party committees of provinces and city (Danang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Kontum) have sent documents to the Prime Minister to support this policy.

The UD has issued and drastically implemented the Plan of Development Strategy to 2030, vision to 2045 as well as the Project to develop the UD into the national university.

3. The UD continues to be the “prestigious address” in training high quality human resources

The UD’s staff is continuously enhanced, with 19 more lecturers meeting the Associate Professor standard (the number is as double as that of 2022). The rate of lecturers with PhD degrees is more than 46% (the rate at University of Science and Technology is 74.8%).

The training quality is constantly being improved, with 47 more training programs accredited nationally and internationally (both undergraduate and master’s level), bringing the total number of accredited training programs to 95 (nearly 2 times higher than in 2022).

University of Science and Technology – UD completed international quality accreditation according to HCERES 2nd cycle; University of Technology and Education – UD meets national quality standard 1st cycle.

The UD continues to have a successful enrollment season (achieved the target of 14,732 new students) with high entrance quality.

Member universities are keen to open many new training majors to meet the needs of society and learners such as: Artificial Intelligence (VKU-UD), English-taught Digital Marketing (DUE-UD), Nanotechnology (VNUK-UD), Medical Laboratory Technology (SMP-UD).

4. The international reputation of the UD is increasingly enhanced

The UD continues to be the destination of many prestigious international events and conferences, attracting many well-known experts and scientists at home and abroad, for example: the talkshow of Prof. Gerard’t Hooft, Nobel laureate in Physics 1999, the series of seminars with the Ulysseus European University Alliance, the reception with Prof. Slim Khabous – General Director of the Association of Francophone Universities, the talkshow of Mr. Julien Guerrier – Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam.

5. The UD has more partners which are leading domestic and international universities

The UD has signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Vietnam National University – HCMC and Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Previously, the UD signed the MOU with Vietnam National University – Hanoi.

The UD successfully hosted and coordinated the organization of conference on “Training high quality human resources for semiconductor industry”.

The UD has become the first non-European member of the Ulysseus European University Alliance.

6. The UD is a “trusted scientific address” in association with ministries, agencies, localities

The UD strengthens links with ministries, central agencies and authorities; promotes the role of intellectuals in proposing resolutions, formulating and criticizing policies.

The UD implemented more than 200 science and technology projects, including 8 state-level ones, 25 ministry-level ones, 7 local-level ones; more than 500 articles in prestigious journals (WoS/Scopus).

7. The UD’s students achieved excellent results at major domestic and international competitions

The UD’s students won the ICPC Vietnam-2023 Programming Contest, won the Men’s Basketball Champion of the 2023 National Student Basketball Tournament, won the Men’s Individual Champion of the 7th Vovinam World Championship 2023.

The UD’s students won 2 first prizes, 7 second prizes, 6 third prizes in Science and Technology Award for students in higher education institutions in 2023; won first prize in business and innovation competitions, etc.

8. Successfully organized the Academia – Industry Collaboration Conference in 2023

This is the first time the UD has organized the Academia – Industry Collaboration Conference. From this hallmark, its member universities continue to strengthen and focus on connecting and cooperating with reputable businesses, thereby creating more internship, career, and scholarship opportunities for students.

9. The World Bank ODA project’s loan contract was signed

The UD has signed a contract to loan ODA capital from the World Bank for Sub-project 1 on technical infrastructure construction at the University Urban Area (in Hoa Quy – Dien Ngoc). This is an important result, a turning point to continue implementing the next parts and phases of the University Urban Area.

10. The 6th UD’s Trade Union Congress achieved great success

The important event of the Trade Union Organization and staff of the UD brought together 200 delegates representing 2,540 trade union members.
