On the morning of March 26^th, 2020, University of Science and Technology-The University of Danang (DUT-UD) had a meeting to hand over an automatic hand sanitizer to Danang General Hospital to serve for the urgent requirements of Covid-19 prevention. This useful technology product was invented by a group of DUT-UD’s lecturers and student named “BK Maker” including 04 students (Phan Ben, Phan Thi Mai, Nguyen Van Thuan and Nguyen Dac Quy) under the guidance of Dr. Ngo Dinh Thanh-Lecturer of Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Dr. Med. Phan Huu Phuoc - Danang General Hospital.

               The team applied the process of “Design thinking”

An automatic hand sanitizer has a compact structure, including: Control circuit and sensor system, disinfectant sprayer system, solution container, cover and bracket. The way to use this device is very simple, automatically spraying disinfectant solution for medical staff, patients to wash their hands. The outstanding advantage of the device is that it saves time (just 3-5 seconds can ensure to receive the necessary amount of solution to disinfect), limit  direct contact, stably operate with high frequency of using in hospitals, agencies ...

                         An automatic hand sanitizer has a lot of advantages

Phan Ben, student of "BK Maker" shared that thanks to useful experiences when participating in scientific research contests and projects serving for community, with the guidance and support of Dr. Ngo Dinh Thanh, the research team had applied the knowledge and skills of "Design thinking" to come up with the best design solution. From the proposal of ideas and actual surveys of needs, the team designed, received feedbacks from users and completed the product in an urgent time (just 03 days). The ideas exchange process among members was mostly online in the difficult condition caused by Covid-19. Especially, the most obstacle was the purchase of components.

          Hang over the automatic hand sanitizer to Danang General Hospital

According to the research team, the total cost of the automatic hand sanitizer was about VND 1-1.5 million and immediately received the support and sponsorship from Danang General Hospital and several enterprises. According to feedbacks of Youth Union ’s representative of Danang General Hospital, the product had received a lot of positive feedbacks from doctors, medical staff and patients at the hospital, especially the feature of avoiding direct contact with the device ensuring the Covid-19 infection prevention. In addition, this device is compact, easy to use, saving time and amount of spray solution, completely suitable for the medical environment ...

       On that basis, Danang General Hospital had continued to "order" 10 more automatic hand sanitizers for using in various areas where a lot of patients come for medical examination. The hospital also suggested DUT-UD to support the Research Team to continue perfecting the product, increasing the density of spraying solution per each time putting hands on antiseptic, designing product to hang this device on wall and sticking the using instructions on the device body ... Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Quang Vinh - Rector of DUT-UD affirmed that DUT-UD would always actively accompany and support useful application serving for the community. Rector Doan Quang Vinh also said that DUT-UD would mobilize additional funding to offset the cost of manufacturing, increase the number of automatic hand sanitizer dispensers  to be handed over to other units to repel the Covid-19 pandemic.
